Plenty of room in Arizona for you Hypatia and all Jedi.

Living in Arizona and someday hoping to be a clericwith TOTJO, I hope this dream can one day be realized.

@ Xon Tay Lor: I like your vision of a Zen like Jedi center that offers mediation, martial arts and retreat atmosphere which aides in the Jedi tenants. It would be open to all. I share the same vision.

I do believe that a Jedi Temple is the assembly of Jedi who come together (the physical space is not important) for the advancement and living in the will of the Force.

The first Jedi physical temple will probably be a self-sustaining monastery with a chapel and guest quarters.

You're probably right about this. Does anyone have any advice on how to create such a thing? What sorts of work could the monks do to sustain themselves? I'm ready to start on a project like this immediately if I could get some assistance from other members. I wonder how much the members of this order would be willing to donate to such a project? I can't even guess because I have no idea how many active members you have. Do you have any thoughts?

Xon Tay Lor: Building an actual Temple and all the acumen that come with it has been a part of this discussion board since its inception. Some of the older Jedi (not in age of course) but in activity can attest to this.

There is a lot to think/dream about. The first is your commitment to the order and becoming a Jedi Knight. There is a lot to unlearn. Does this endeavor come from: Humility, Sencerity and Perseverance? Does seeking the Jedii path have: Humility, Sincerity and Perseverance?

Charting one's journey in the Jedi path means that this "place of meeting" will be guided by the Force. A physical Temple will be built, I'm certian of it, who will run it, is another question. I do know... that building it will take much plannning and monitary resources.

There are many out there who do wonderful work in a Jedi type atmosphere: http://www.mro.org/zmm/

This is a great example.

The first step is patience.

Actually, I think real-life Temples have been discussed since the inception of the Jedi community itself, around about 1995 I think. Though I know there were Jedi realists around before then, just not grouped as well as they are now.

Anyway, I think the Jedi Gatherings were an important step in that direction, and from personal experience I believe it showed just how unlikely it is to happen any time soon. The gathering I went to had only about a dozen people in it, and most were from out of state. If a temple were to be created, I think it would have to be in a big city, with a high concentration of people, where it would be easier to get their attention.

Which reminds me, there is one place in New York City, but they focus more on saber and martial skills. Still, it would be a great place to start. I'd like to go there myself some day.

why just in America can we find Jedi? why not all around the world. places where people, for example, have seen star wars and now want to be a jedi? im not for one minutesaying that you only have American members but it seems that a lot of people from the USA are members. wouldnt it be better to build, if your going to build a temple, to build them all around? to get more people from around the world joining and understanding.

Shadow, nobody is limiting this to just the Americas. We know there are Jedi all over the world. Many people on this site live in the UK. We got people from all over here. It just seems to be mainly people from America who are more into the whole physical Temple thing, and it's usually the new guys on the site. Instead of looking at other threads talking about why there are no temples, they tend to just create a new thread...getting kind of annoying, really, lol. If you want to have a temple, go out and build one or find a place to turn into one. Though keep in mind that it has been stated before that you will need to be a member of clergy to run a temple (at least under the TotJO name). This is true of most religions (maybe all of them). The religious leaders don't associate themselves with establishments not run by a member of the clergy.

There is one in Kentucky, one in Chicago, one is looking to set up in Tacoma, and I learned of one in Europe recently (not sure exactly where they are, but the site is primarily German). There is also one in Russia somewhere. Michigan, Texas and Ohio are looking for committed members in their areas.

I'm constantly on the look out for people in similar areas sothey can connect.
