quite well put jestor,

we don't require anyone to have a lightsaber, there are other temples/orders that do and that is their decision.

a long time ago i learned that if you can't laugh at yourself then it will hurt when others laugh at you, and you would have no business laughing at others.

many of us here do have lightsaber hilts that we either made ourselves, designed ourselves or both...some of us have a collection of hilts from a variety of sources...i myself have 5(the 5th is around here somewhere i just have to remember where i put it) 4 of which i designed and built myself, my newest one is made from machined parts and customized by me.

as jestor mentioned there is a lesson in the initiates program that you will get to pertaining to this...many of us simply view them as a fun homage to our name's origin...plus if you ever get to duel with one you'll get to see just how much fun they really are :D

Not to sound to confused but this thread a suppose makes sense as a Jedi thread but as a church are Lightsabers actually use. If so would that not cross the Church into the Roleplaying realm which the Front Page clearly states we are not? Again I am still new and learning so just curious.

I fully understand and actually in some ways agree with this statement - but generally we make it very clear that there are distinct lines to be drawn between the real world jediism and roleplaying type activities.

I for one collect sabers - as well as design and build my own (and design for professional sabersmiths) but this is purely my own hobby and set apart from jediism - I was doing this before I 'found' jediism.

Others simply want to discover the deep personal gratification and reward of taking the time and investing the energy in constructing their own hilts for ceremonial use - and probably learning a few skills along the way.

Others like the idea of combining a replica saber with numerous martial arts/skills based on sword work, especially those set around bokken/katana (aikido, iaido, kendo etc etc etc) - thus a duelling safe replica is necessary - and thus the construction must be good and strong and safe for all concerned.

I also know of a number of jediism practitioners who also roleplay - so it is possible to do both - but a clear line defining the two is needed - sometimes, a hilt/saber can be useful as 'advertising' or a convo starter to jediism ;)

After all did the Samurai in training not begin with the Bokken (Wooden version of Katana for those that do now know the term). ;)

I think we all can agree that it is fun to have a Lightsaber but we weather it’s for show, protection or practice we must remember that we are real life Jedi and follow our code down to the line in this temple

However, on the fun off hand part is you wish to carry something like a lightsaber try buying an extendable police baton and building a saber hilt around the baton handle and paint the rest of the baton

I start thinking in getting one, and build me one, but, again like in the past, if you say you are a Jedi, and you also carry or have a lightsaber, you looks more like a movie fan, \"for the others\", so I still don't have a lightsaber, and I need to re-think about getting, or building one

is not important for me, what the people say, but, you know, if you like to be taked seriously, you need to be serious in some way...
