in a situation where you are on the ground with someone who does not understand these positions, simply knowing what they are will give you an advantage if the size and weight are fairly equal
learning how to change your position and get out from underneath someone who has put you down is a pretty important basic requirement even if you arent interested in bjj or ground fighting
this technique can also work against punches, especially looping style and "haymakers" - i was told to train my left arm to just do it by blocking and wrapping around their right in one motion when they punch
most people are right handed and a lot of times when people throw the first punch their idea is to really put everything into it and hopefully get a knock out
this tech works well when you block that kind of punch and its been referenced in a couple of the above videos so i wanted to highlight it
