usually when someone says "thats wrong" i like to re-frame the idea by asking "how well does it work? or, how well does it do what i want it to do?" which leads to "exactly what do i want it to do?"

but it is important to learn things the "right" way
once youve built the foundation you can modify to your needs, but we all have have to build the foundation first if we want our modifications to hold up, imo
