The issue of conformity is a central theme in Norse Mythology with Loki being the key figure, actually saving Valhalla and the rest of the gods from literally that which had come before them. Loki is in essence discord and destruction, It was trickery and deception that was used as the means to build the wall that saved them all in the end. It was non conformity, the very thing that all the other gods lacked that threatened immortality itself; which is the very crux of what it means to be a god. The core theme of rebirth and resurrection itself demands nonconformist change, so in essence you could say that the whole of the Universe itself is in perpetual conflict with stagnation.

You kind of see this in Egyptian mythology too, it's Set, the god of chaos, who stops Apep from devouring the sun barque each night as it entered Amduat.

Great point! If you look at it another way you could see it as: All is changing and therefore an illusion or not real; we are the gods, our essence is unchanging, therefore we are real. We need to heed the warnings of conformity because to do otherwise would result in our destruction, as the Universe is ever changing, we need to deal with it.
