The Force, like life itself, is eternal, and unchanging.
It has no age, gender, nationality, or boundaries. But, humans are not beings of pure life, flawless incarnations of the Force. We are beings of matter, born from the synthesis of male and female, egg and sperm - a perfect union of both. As such, we hold both
within us.
Early on in human civilization, there was a recognition
of the life-giving nature held within the female. Women were not only the bearers of life, but the nurturers and guardians of it. And this is reflected in the spirituality of the age: The Divine Feminine.
She began as simply The Goddess, earthy, ample and fertile,
the Sacred Mother. She changed over time, becoming goddesses of love, home, sex, and magic, or the mother of God, or his lover. She ever retained those qualities of the ancient Earth Mother, though. She created, nurtured, and sheltered.
But what does the Sacred Feminine have to do with Jediism?
She is not mentioned in our doctrine, or worshipped as part of our services. She is not a part of Jediism, but a part of ourselves. Each of us carries the spirit of the Sacred Feminine, whether we identify as male, female, both, or neither.
Jediism is a faith that attracts those who seek knowledge,
strength, justice, and fearlessness - the power of the Divine Masculine, the Warrior within. It is too easy to forget the power of the Mother when following the example of the Warrior. The Mother is compassion and love. Her strength isn’t the sword-arm of
the Warrior, but the endurance of pain, both physical and emotional. She is what keeps The Warrior from becoming a senseless weapon, or a cold machine of intellect.
Practically speaking, The Sacred Feminine is what allows
you to see an opponent or even an enemy, as a fellow human being, whose life and feelings aren’t to be abused. She calls us to shoulder the pain of another in order to alleviate their burden. She is the part of us that loves all of humanity like a mother loves
her children, unconditionally.
Now, we carry both these masculine and feminine aspects
with us throughout our lives. Our task is to keep them in balance. That doesn’t mean we must be half-masculine and half-feminine, but that we need to be aware that both are needed to be a whole person. Just as we needed both a male and female to come into
existence. Part of the wisdom that we should be seeking as Jedi is how to temper the fire of the Warrior with the compassion of the Mother.
And so, today’s reflection is this: how can I embrace
the Sacred Feminine as I travel along my Jedi Path? Are my Warrior (Divine Masculine) and Mother (Sacred Feminine) in balance?
