Tl;DR? His hypothesis is (assuming I have understood the article correctly): Theremodynamics requires that entropy increases, based on this atoms will arrange into structures that promote the increase of entropy with as much efficiency as possible. This restructuring will organise atoms into complex molecules which are even more efficient and so on until life is created (which is far more efficient at distributing entropy than a bunch of randomly jumbled together atoms.
