Cover all of the background so that only the boxes are visible, then cover the midpoint where they touch so that none of the curved surface is visible...then the sameness will be visible because none of the background "noise" will be there to interfere....

Quickly knocked this up, just in case it's useful. On the right I took the top half of the red box and the bottom half of the blue box - you can see the grey is the same.

Does it ultimately matter? I no longer see shades of gray...its all just color and form and space and art to me
