I've do not really see them as unrelated, but more looking at the same aspect of experiencing 'what is good' from distinct perspectives. Taoism isn't precisely a middle, but an all-around ...
Epicureanism and Stoïcism see "things" from very similar angles, from the "what is", regardless of the source. A Taoist will contemplate all the angles, seen and unseen, from 'emergeance from' to 'return to' source ...
