letting others do the work and being determined to take credit for it will get you left in the jungle by your own team

I'm not sure what motivation is. Oftentimes, I've been on the receiving end of motivation.. meaning, when I have it, I take advantage of it. But, I'm not sure how it comes about.

I don't understand passion. I also don't understand liking things and not liking things. How do we know what we like and don't like? How do we know what we want and don't want? How do we know what we need and don't need?

If I could answer these questions, I would not have ANY issues in my life regarding depression. It is the constant struggle of "How do I go from doing nothing to do something?" every day that keeps me from succeeding.

So, it's very easy to say: "Develop self-discipline" but I don't know how.

You familiar with Robert Greene? I've finished reading his 48 laws of power

That book is foul. A psychologist that I work with describes it as the corporate worlds manual for how to be a sociopath.

*shrugs* I liked it.

The idea is to do it without your team even realizing it.

I believe this law is like... Steve Jobs and Bill Gates.

They will even say: "I owe it to my team of employees". But, they are SEEN as the single entity of the company. The law, I think, is saying.. become the face everybody thinks of when you are talking about a product. When I say: who made the iPhone? You think: Steve Jobs did. (Maybe you don't, if you're in the minority. But, most people will let the image flow through their head without a second thought)

Take credit... but don't SAY you're taking credit.. that's a sure fire way to get KILLED by your team.

you never know what you like until you've tried it...you never know what you want until you have it.

once you've experienced something you know if you like it or not, you know if you want it or not...

experience is key....without experience the questions go unanswered...

i try everything....anytime i encounter something i've never tried before i try it out to see if i like it...i'll either like it or i won't ....but i'll never know until after i've tried...

You want discipline, not motivation.

Motivation is useless.

When I come home after working a 12 hour shift, I have zero motivation to cook food, wash dishes, wash, dry and fold the laundry.

I do it because I will myself to do it, not because I feel inspired to.

Decide to fight and everything becomes a battlefield, even the mundane.

There is nothing to know about it.

If it meant you and your family freezing to death or chopping wood to burn, even with a broken leg you would find a way to do it. In a situation like this you wouldn't worry about self motivation, because you would have two options, do or die.

Treat even the mundane things as a battle and go to war with your life.

im sorry conner but youre whole perspective is headed for a crash

is your team stupid?

are the people on your team not worthy of recognition for their work?

do you value your team members enough to treat them with genuine respect?

the kind of thinking in your post results in terrible leadership

thats not a judgement against you or anyone else its just a simple documented fact of leadership

everyone carries their weight and everyone is ackowledged for their work

thats leadership

the most effective teams are made of competent people who earn their place on the team and give everything theyve got to see it win

good leaders recognize these people and demonstrate that they value them sincerely

if youre not emotionally capable of valuing others at least develop the techniques of showing value to them by treating them in ways they understand as being respectful and appropriate to their dedication and achievement

no one wants to put the best of themselves into something and come to realize they were used and manipulated and decieved

depending on the circumstances people will literally kill you for that

and depending on the circumstances it would be fair

its not nearly as powerful to steal others light as it is to find a way to shine your own

theres no way around it man - the truth wins out eventually

People are complicated.

lol. You totally missed my point dude.

The idea is to value your team immensely. Show them you value them. Say you value them all the time. Be extremely generous to them. They are gods to you. Without them, you are nothing.

But, at the end of the day, when somebody thinks of your product, they think of YOU... not the team. ;)

They think of the face of the company.

They think of Flo, from Progressive. They think of Tony, from Frosted Flakes.

But, when the CEO is his own face... That's what this rule is saying.
