I actually just this weekend asked my girlfriend to read our doctrine page. I didn't expect her to join I just wanted her to know what we were all about. She looked at me and said "you know you're basically a yogi that doesn't do yoga, right?" From her that's a compliment, she loves yoga and everything that goes with it.

Now we have an understanding that we basically believe the same stuff I just use words that come from Star Wars. When ever I'm working on the IP and she asks what I'm doing I just say "Jedi stuff." I freqently bring up topics from the forums with her to hear her opinions and they usually are in line with mine and a majority of the Temple.

Part of me would love for her to go through the IP but that won't happen. She works full time and is a student and she's the kind of student that studies all the time even if she only has one class, so she doesn't really have time right now for that. She's very supportive of me doing it though. She actually finds it funny, I put more effort into the IP than most of the classes I took in college.

My wife's been very supportive - we agree on the same basic values, so when I told her about my beliefs, there wasn't anything alien to her. I have to count on her support of my meditation practice (we have small kids, so while I'm meditating, she takes care of the rascals). The side-effects of my practice have been largely positive to the family - which makes her happy. If she's happy, I'm happy, and vice versa.

Do not look for happiness outside yourself. The awakened seek happiness inside.

My wife tolerates it. She sees it's made some positive differences to my life and she likes the fact that I do things like volunteer because of it, but when we get into the metaphysical aspect I think she feels somewhat differently to me.

I guess I like that we have our own things.

My wife is a witch and quotes "An it harm none, do as yea will" whenever we talk about it. She is very practical and salt-of-the-earth in her opinions, herself. She will occasionally put things in Star Wars terms for my sake, but more frequently she will put it in Star Trek terms because she thinks it is funny.

Her opinion may have changed. We don't hang out anymore. This is just how it was.

My Fiance understands why I'm here and likes that I 'have something'.. he looked around the site and like Reliah's sermon on love, but he's not really interested in being here. He's a lot into Bushido and was brought up martial arts and eastern kind of values but for him Star Wars is separate to his beliefs.

He just kind of leaves me to it :)

It won't let me have a blank signature ...

Having a spouse on the same path is interesting because on the one hand you have someone who is supportive of your efforts, is a great sounding board and an extremely useful resource of knowledge and wisdom which can help keep you on track. It’s reassuring having someone who is dedicated to train alongside.

On the other, it can be incredibly exhausting because there’s not a moment of “down time” There’s no escape from the work of being on the path and no one who will buy into your crap when you’re pushing against it. Especially if they are further down the path than you are.

My wife doesn't care either way.

Don't push yourself so hard or compare yourself to others. It's a journey not a destination. :)

:) I didn't mean in in the sense that its a comparison, but in the sense that they are always there to remind you that you're capable of more.

And I dont know how not to push myself hard :P :silly:
