People so often wear masks, that when they take them off, it's always a surprise to find out what they really looked like to begin with.

Thanks for the post Jestor

So long and thanks for all the fish

"If we could see into people's hearts..."

It would be a violation of their right to privacy.

If people wanted you to treat them differently just because there is something about them that would emotionally affect you if you knew about it, they'd tell you about it.

I believe this is meant to be applied when dealing with people you don't know rather than those that you do know. Everyone should be treated with a level of respect unless they prove that they are not worthy of that respect. It is important to remember that everyone is going through something you may not understand, so do not look down on someone whose situation you are unaware of.

May the Force be with you,
Rai

it seems that it is what we don't know about others that creates problems. We assume and don't ask questions, or try to really get to know someone, even just in passing. We could help so many if we opened up and wasn't so shy and timid with strangers. But in this world we are taught not to trust anyone, and sometimes this is with good reason. It's sad, but it seems to be the reality.

people already know that a guy is sad or something. Or happy whatever.
I think all people are empathic, they just choose to ignore it.

So would they treat them any differently if it was physically right there?
I'd bet they'd just try harder to ignore it

Sid, I disagree...

But, I feel like I am bird-doggin's ya, especially with our conversation about Alexandre's sermon, so, I dont want you to feel like I am picking on you, I will just say I disagree...:)

When you meet someone you don't know, doesn't that mean there are many things you don't know about them?
Just like there are many things you don't know about a great many things no matter how well you think you know them?

situation:::::::I stay at home=>I look after my child=>My child is disabled
reaction::::::::scrounger======>Bigger scrounger======>Oh I'm so sorry
My Thoughts:::::I make my own money anyway============>You're insulting me now, I shouldnt have told you.
ideal reaction::Do you not get bored==================>I guess that keeps you busy

Dear God that might lead to constructive discussion and debate!!

But seriously, are you taking responsibility for my actions?

It's been me who's been responding to what YOU say and challenging. The onus is on me.

If I post a rant where I tell everybody to go screw themselves will you take responsibility for that too?

What's the point of bringing a video into discussion if we can't discuss over if we disagree on what we see in it?

lol, very good...

When I you post often, there are a couple of others that do as well...

And, I feel like I am always saying that "well, I disagree" to you indivduals...

And, I dont want someone to think I am sitting here being obstinate just to be obstinate... ;)... lol..

No, I am not taking responsibility for your actions... Not directly...;).. HOwever, if I ignore, what I see as a deficit in your philosophy, and I do nothing to help you see what I think are errors, then I am, just a bit, for not helping you... lolol...

Ok, let me repost your post:

1. How would someone know someone else is sad or something? We all have something going on in our lives that others are unaware about... It could simply be he is constipated... Or he is wondering if he left the iron on... Or right before we saw him, he stubbed his toe, and had a scowl on his face cause that really hurts...

You cant assume anything... If you want to know, ask if there is a problem... But, only if you are prepared to invest the time... Otherwise, you are doing the person a disservice to ask, then not care...

2. I agree we are all empathic, to a point... But it is undeveloped because people are so wrapped up in their own troubles... If I ignore my co-worker and his problems, it doesnt mean for positive that I dont care... I may be busy, and not have the time to delve into the issues... The actual issue is not what they are mindful of (whining about), but instead, a problem with how they perceive the issue... Or, I may have already helped as much as I can, but if he keeps repeating the situation, and I cannot offer any more help than what I have done, what is left to do?

3. Yes, people would treat them differently if the evidence was right there... Ren pointed that out in his example a post or two back...:)

4. I dont think people would try any harder to ignore, I actually think people would try harder to care a little more...

People are inherently good, I think, and to have situations 'right in your face' makes it hard to ignore...

Those that dont know how to deal with it, would ignore, sure... But, few would..

As always, "In my opinion"...
