There are many types of pride ..some are worth holding onto at all costs...others would benefit from being relinquished...the trick is to figure which to keep and which to toss aside...and when to do so....

The kind COL Hubbard was talking about was the kind that wont be broken, not by anyone, even after over 2,200 days in a Hanoi hellhole on about 300 calories a day. Without it, he would not have survived.

So concur, ryujin. Just wanted to make clear that being proud of yourself, your accomplishments, is not a sin in my book. Sometimes its all you have.

Pride coupled with gratitude and humility is fine ... Most often our successes come with the help of others and a substantial measure of what could otherwise be called "good luck".

The pride that shows itself off as conceit, albeit I do not like to talk about "sin" per se, it tends to prove handicapping and ultimately paralysing.

Be a philosopher ; but, amidst all your philosophy, be still a man.
~ David Hume

Chaque homme a des devoirs envers l'homme en tant qu'homme.

I think pride that shows itself as honour is different than pride that shows itself as conceit. Sticking to a code of honour is worth hanging on to.

May the Force be with you,

I do agree that there are many different types of prides but in the end Calling something as a pride just puts it in a position that it may need to be given up at some point. Being Prideful can be a good thing but inthe end a lot of things must come before pride itself. If the pride is something that needs to be held onto at all costs would it still be just pride or Pride Combined with something else?
