I would recommend starting there, with catnaps, and making time for them irregardless of what chores people feel need to get done. You are good to no one if you are worn down and exhausted. All performance goes out the window.

Thank you very much for the tip, Sulabri. I will look into catnaps, I would simply have to find a place where I can pull this off without getting in trouble. I cannot do it in my car, I live smack on the equator, so we only get two climates here: hot and hotter. Definitely helpful though. :)

I'm not sure how medication would help. I have no trouble falling a sleep, I just get home so late and have to wake up so early that I don't sleep the amount of hours that I'd like to.

I actually do relax during this wind down time. :)

I have neglected physical training, but I feel so tired that other than a few pushups and lunges that I can do anywhere without breaking a sweat and having to shower, I just want to go to bed. I find it hard to sit down to meditate, but I have this thing I do, since I was a kid, where I would just walk around in circles in my living room or around my neighborhood (sometimes for hours), where I completely disconnected from the world and felt completely relaxed. I do this still, but only for 20 or 30 minutes, before I simply just must go to bed.

The optimist expects it to change;
The realist adjusts the sails.

Then it's about changing the lifestyle to sleep healthy. Easier said then done and yes, I am captain obvious. But sleep is of more need then food for human health. Tried 40 hours without it and my mind already have started to blur in a crappy way.

I can't really think of a legitimate reason not to sleep my 8 hours per night - deviations ok, but the average must be this. I'd rather change job, break relationships or move to another flat/city/country then sacrifice my sleep for indefinite period of time.

USSR Intelligence KGB used sleep deprivation as a method of torture. And, I suppose, it was one of the most successful and, also, "marking-free" methods of the whole history ( example ).
