In my religion, Candomble, things are quite the opposite. Whenever you are initiated, you have your head shaved. That's because the Orisa Ori lives in your head, and by removing your hair, your own Orisa, the god or goddess that will possess your body during the rituals, will have a better contact with your Ori, and thus will be able to communicate better and be born perfectly. After you are in for a while, you don't need to cut your hair anymore, because they are already living inside you, but you just can't be initiated without shaving your head.

I have my head shaved, and it's been about four years now since I started shaving it, and I honestly don't feel it had any influence on how much energy or anything else I'm able to sense.

Aqua, this was really interesting - I had never heard of this before. I'm going to have to research it a little more and see if I can find any factual information about the studies done during the Vietnam War era.

I go from short hair to long hair, sometimes not getting hair cuts for several years, and will usually just break out the buzz cutter and take it all the way down when I do cut it. I don't particularly like the way I look with really long hair, but I do feel somewhat different between the two extremes. I am not sure if it is just my head is getting a draft when I don't have any hair, or something more - but you have given me something interesting to think about!

The article is hokum, but there are other good reasons to keep your hair long, especially for men, and your beard full. Mostly because the societal expectation of shorn and cropped men derives from a desire to control and demasculinize, to make men more docile, more social, more "civilized."

i've read this before a few years back...the easiest way would be to talk to some native americans....that being said i live in florida and we have the seminole tribe as the largest tribe in the state...we have several smaller tribes as well, and i've seen many with short hair and many with long hair...i'm part cheyenne and currently i have my hair long...but i've also had it very short (being ex military)...i've never really noticed a difference in mood or abilities...

My mood is affected only because I'm bald. :(

When I started balding, I decided to avoid letting myself get depressed with it, and shaved everything. Decided to let a mustache grow and assumed the bald head.

I have a thick beard I keep trimmed. If I shave my head Id look like a pro wrestles or a biker. Wouldn't fit in at work.

Pretty cool idea, whiskers on seals are "key to their hunting ability" and you see them on most mammals.

Why does the body grow hair almost everywhere for most people? It's definitely an extension of the nervous system, like little feelers beyond the skin. But then it serves the function of protecting the head and face, preventing a lot of moisture from building up in sensitive areas - maybe.

Oh the wonders of nature.

i don't have to worry about balding....it's a hereditary trait that doesn't run in my family on either side....my grandfather had a full head of hair when he died...

interesting theory i saw on discovery once was that the reason our hair stands on end when startled/frightened was to give the appearance of being bigger, a defensive mechanism much like the puffer fish...it was also theorized to be a sort of warning like when a cat or dogs fur stands on end.....
