Temple of the Jedi Order treats the safety of minors with the utmost importance and we take our responsibilities to our younger members very seriously.
We define a minor as someone who is under the age of eighteen (18), if you are a minor, please read Section One and Section Three carefully.
Please contact one (or more) Youth Officers and let them know you have joined the temple. They will give you access to youth section of the forum. After speaking with a Youth Officer please introduce yourself in the youth section of the forum as soon as possible, this is simply so our Youth Officers are aware of you. In some cases we may ask to double check with your parent(s) or guardian(s) that they are aware, and happy, with your membership of the Temple.
Please have in mind that Youth Officers should be the first persons to be contacted if you needed someone to talk to. If the matter is urgent please contact any other Councillor. Any matter is dealt with in strict confidence.
All minors are expected to read the Minor's Agreement and make sure you follow our rules, this is for your own safety as well as that of our guests and members.
2. Membership
We do not allow minors under the age of thirteen (13) to join the Temple. Membership for anyone between the ages of thirteen (13) and eighteen (18) can be applied for after contacting a Youth Officer and receiving access to the Youth Forum where a shorter application can be filled out, please see the pinned post "Youth Application". If a minor fills out the Jedi Application it will count as being invalid and will be deleted.
The Temple does not record or store the personal information of minors. Minors are welcome to chat with members, contribute on the forums and begin their studies, but will not be allowed to become a legally recognised member of our church, a Temple Member, until they are at least the age of thirteen (13).
3. Training
We do not allow minors under the age of sixteen (16) to be Apprenticed to a Teaching/Training Master, and we do not allow minors to become Knights. Minors are however free to start the Initiate Programme at any time.
4. Online Safety
We will respect the wishes of your parents or guardians, if they wish to restrict your access then we will oblige them until you are no longer a minor. If a parent or guardian needs to view your online activity then we will, providing they can prove their identity, oblige.
We strongly encourage all minors to view the links below which are great for learning more about online safety:
Your child's safety is important to us. We will do our best to protect them from any potential threat. You, as their guardian or parent can ask us, if you prove your identity, to restrict the website access of your child or request us to show you their online activity.
If you need to contact anyone, please contact our Youth Officers, and if it is urgent, please contact a Councillor.
We also recommend you to read the following pages about online safety:
We expect minors on our forum to agree to and follow these basic guidelines on internet safety:
Do not give out any personal information such as your full name or address or any identifying information (such as school or hometown name) to anyone at Temple of the Jedi Order. This includes your age and date of birth. You will only be asked your name and date of birth by a Youth Officer in order to confirm your age and membership application information, it will not be shared.
Do not give out any identifying information about friends or family.
Do not download anything from anyone you don't know. In addition to offensive content, spam or junk e-mail may contain viruses that can damage your computer.
You will report any suspicious, threatening or inappropriate behaviour and you will not respond to it further. You will report such behaviour to a Youth Officer or Councillor immediately. You should report anyone persistently asking for any personal information or making you feel threatened or unsafe.
When first contacting a Youth Officer, please tell them “Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is - Yoda” to ensure you have read the agreement.
You will never meet with someone you met at TOTJO in the real world without the express permission of your parent or guardian.
You will always be respectful to other members of the forum.
Before registering, please take a few moments to read the FAQ and the Home page, to familiarize yourself with some of our site rules, procedures, and policy.
Rules, written in black and white, feel like a challenge to many, and those folks like to see how far things can be pushed.
By being able to search the internet to find us, we assume each individual to have an average intelligence (or better), and to understand that the "letter of the law" and the "spirit of the law" are different. We are a "spirit of the law" community.
We do not remove folks for one offence, for five offences, or for fifty offences. There is no set number.
When the burden of a persons membership outweighs their benefit, they will be removed.
As you are about to sign up, two rules, in particular, are of importance.
No boastful names (the best, the wise, etc) as the impression of such names are out of alignment with the intended humility of the Jedi here at Temple of the Jedi Order.
No profanity, lewd words, or innuendoes
- Second, no asking for a "master" or similarly, no stating of desire to be an "apprentice" until you are nearing the completion of the Initiate Programme.
If you find your account blocked, please email the Vice President of Membership Affairs at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this notice.
At the request of the Temple's membership the Temple of the Jedi Order offers 'branded' merchandise in a variety of different forms.
Official Merchandise Stores
Unfortunately the Temple does not have the capacity to produce these items itself, so all of our merchandise is outsourced.
We have two official merchandise stores. One is from a website called 'CafePress' and the other is from a website called 'Zazzle' (both are linked below).
Both of these stores are based in the US; we do not currently have any stores outside of the US though thus may change in the future. If you know of any websites in Europe or elsewhere that we can open a store on please contact us.
Our average commission is 11% across all of our items. So for example if you spend $20 on an item then the Temple will earn $2.20. The commission rate is low, because the prices for items in the store are already quite high and the merchandise is not our primary source of income.
Donations are, and forever will be, our primary source of income. If you wish to directly give us money, that should be done via the Donate button at the top of each page of our website. The merchandise income is purely supplementary and the primary purpose of the merchandise is providing people with the TotJO themed items they have requested.
Lucas Arts and Intellectual property
Lucas Arts has the intellectual property rights for anything in the Star Wars universe. This includes such terms as 'Jedi' (for some but not all purposes) as well as the five-line Code listed on our Doctrine page. This means that we are unable to include items in our stores that include those terms. This does make the range of designs that we can offer very restrictive; most if not all of our designs will only include our Symbol, which is a trademark owned by the Temple.
We have the right to use terms like 'Jedi' because there is no trademark for Jedi when used for philosophical, religious or realism purposes. However, we don't have the right to use it on many items like t-shirts since it does have a trademark for use on clothing items.
If members wish to create their own items for personal use with designs on them that include words like 'Jedi' then they are free to do so, however they will have to obtain those personally as we cannot provide them.
Contacting the Public Relations and Marketing Team
If you wish to contact us then the best method to do so would be to email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
All of these emails are read, but things can get busy or forgotten about over time. If you find that you have sent an email and not received a reply, or something was confirmed to happen and since then nothing has happened, please either send another email or a Private Message (PM) to a Public Relations and Marketing Officer.
Certificates
Contact the Public Relations and Marketing team for a Digital Certificate, which are available by request. Certificates are sent via email for you to print yourself. The Temple can print and send you a certificate for a small fee if you wish.
If you have a legitimate reason why you can’t use your legal name then please notify the an Administrator before taking an oath. If your legal name should change for whatever reason then please inform an Administrator.
Members may wish to take a personal Jedi Oath (formulated in personal words), but a personal oath is not considered binding in the eyes of TotJO. Any pledge no matter in what form is a valid oath, no doubt, but it is not specific, in an official form, to the members who are Jedi here.
To take an oath or vow is public and personal in nature. This means it is witnessed by the Temple in the form of a public announcement with direct reference to the person taking it.
An oath or vow is a promise with sacred and legal character, the fulfilment of which is a serious obligation. Such a promise implies more than a wish or a desire, it is a firm decision to fulfil the oath or vow which is taken.
All oaths and vows must be made sincerely and knowingly with sufficient deliberation and due discernment. All oaths and vows must be taken freely, that is without grave and unjust fear, malice or ill intent. Any oath or vow made under such circumstances is invalid.
Also invalid is an oath or vow made out of ignorance or error concerning an element which constitutes the substance of the oath or vow. Ignorance is lack of knowledge; error is mistaken judgment. Ignorance or error invalidates the oath or vow if the person vowing lacked knowledge of, or erred in judgment about, something that is of the substance of the oath or vow.
To take the Simple Oath you should post it as a reply to your Journal inserting your name where required. Your oath does not have to be in English, you may use any of the translated versions we have below, but if you make the oath in a language you do not speak then it is insincere and counts as being invalid.
The Simple Oath is a non-mandatory oath of dedication to the Jedi Path. It binds you to the Jedi Way until you are ready for Knighthood or until you decide to leave. The Simple Oath has previously been a requirement of rank advancement, but this is no longer the case. If you are taking the Simple Oath then please post it as a response to your journal.
The "Solemn Vow" is taken by those who have completed the required Apprenticeship training and decided to dedicate their lives to the Jedi Way as a binding and lifelong commitment.

I profess before all my fellow Jedi that I, [name], without reservation, choose the Jedi path with all its duties and responsibilities. I promise to uphold the Jedi teachings, and to live a life worthy of a Jedi.

Because of this we ask all those in such positions to take this Oath of Office below under these conditions. This Oath does not have to be made publicly though a record of it being taken will be kept by the Council.
Any and allOfficers are expected to take this oath and be held accountable for their actions if they breach its terms.
