The little bird was happily bounding along the forest floor, eating seeds as she went. She knew that Winter was approaching, so she began to store some of her seeds in a tree. The little bird was quite pleased with herself by the time Winter's first breath came to herald his return. She had stored enough seeds to see her through the cold season and more!

One day, in the depths of winter, her friend Raven came to visit the little bird. The little bird thought he looked lean and tired. Amid their conversation, Raven lamented at the scarcity of food. The little bird brightened. She had more than enough, she could share her food with her old friend! And that's what the little bird did. Raven thanked her profusely for the gift and stayed with her to chat until the evening fell.

In the morning, Raven came again and brought a friend of his who was also very hungry. The little bird couldn't turn them away, so she fed them both that day. This was repeated, with more and more hungry birds coming to the little bird for food. She felt bad for all of them. Their need was more important than her's! She fed them, even giving her last seed to her visitors. Until one day, Raven came by and couldn't find his old friend. For she had given so much of herself, there was nothing left for her. And the little bird perished before Spring could tease her brother Winter away.
