Whelp I just read this article http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/jedi-bible-released-followers-star-11164263

Article text:

Star Wars fanatics will be able to get their own Bible - after the founder of Jediism published a book on the religion.

Become The Force: 9 Lessons On How To Live as a Jediist Master promises to teach followers how to use "the force" for good in their lives. The sci-fi self-help book has been written by the Church of Jediism founder Daniel Jones.

Daniel, 31, says his teachings are inspired by the Star Wars films' fictional Jedi Order. He claims the "Bible" will "inspire followers to live meaningful, empowered lives" and with lessons preaching "tolerance, self-belief and how to find the light in a world of darkness."

Jediism was officially recognized as a religion in 2001 and is estimated to have 500,000 practicing members worldwide.

The church claims to have more members in the UK than Scientology, Paganism, Humanism, and Rastafarianism combined.

I am not sure how I feel about the article, its tone, or the claims made. So I would love to hear outside opinion

I don't know a single thing about this particular group so I can't say. I just felt something off about the tone and wanted to hear others views on the book idea or the group putting it out.

Fascinating is one word we can go with. All I can say is something feels off about the whole thing. Just a little tilted off what should be if that makes sense. They might have a noble goal and I could be wrong but from the get go that article had my radar pinging and those links just confirmed the feelings. However I am going to preorder the book and see if its worth anything. Cant really hurt as its only 15 or 16 bucks.

I mean, the article is from the Mirror, its not exactly the gold standard of journalism

And Jediism was NOT officially recognised as a religion in 2001, thats a blatant lie. They're confusing The Jedi Census Phenomenon

But yeah, Daniel Jones is an odd one.

It's really annoying though because the News in the UK always go to him for comments on Jediism, even for things that have nothing to do with him. Like when the BBC ran an article on TotJO applying for charitable status in the UK, they asked him about it?!

They did rather than reaching out to us? Do they have any articles on it or was it only tv/video coverage? Also, that article just elicited a facepalm worthy of skipping coffee....
Still going to get the book because despite my reservations about the group and its founder the book might be worth something. Plus I can give you folk a review of it so you don't waste money if it's worthless and maybe grab it if it's worthwhile.

Here's a recent article where the journalist actually fact checked Jones' claims of having hundreds of thousands of followers.

http://www.cafebabel.co.uk/lifestyle/article/jediism-caught-between-the-dark-side-and-the-light.html

"Jones mentions something along the lines of half a million followers all over the world and boasts of sizeable online traffic on the Church’s website. But there’s no official data to back up his claims. The number of faithful practitioners of the Jedi Church seems marginal, at best."

"The webpage’s forum isn’t exactly proof of popularity either. The total number of users, both active and inactive, amounts to 56, with an even lower participation rate: the ‘welcome’ thread is the most active, with a total of seven users having written ten messages [NB. data collected 07/07/2017]."

It's not a church or a non-profit. CoJ is a for profit business owned by Jones. Here's the Publisher's Weekly review of his 'bible'. https://www.publishersweekly.com/9781786780904?permamore

Lol every time I read that article I cheer a little for Tesco's response.

But yeah, would be great to have a review from it. As much as I don't agree with his for profit look on Jediism, there is a chance to learn something and that's always worth it.
