In Conservative media "Muslims" often seem to be portrayed as "Islamists" with all the terrorist-esque implications this word entails. For the Conservative's it seems to be a case of the Christian Us vs the Muslim Other. Alas this view is prominent in media thus the People's thoughts, so what is clearly the most shocking to an American (and in many places European :dry:) mind is the idea that a Muslim can be just as intellectually capable as a Westerner (a colonialist attitude I guess).
