To The Fallen

I have been watching All The Kings Men - a drama based on a true story of The Sandringham Company in World War 1, during the Galipoli campaign. I have come away with a lump in my throat! It prompted me to share the following poem, lest we forget our fallen heroes in the UK and the US. My closest school friend was killed aboard a naval vessel in the Falklands war on his eighteenth birthday - when an Argentinian 'Excocet' missile struck their ship.
The Soldier
IF I should die, think only this of me:
That there's some corner of a foreign field
That is forever England. There shall be
In that rich earth a richer dust concealed;
A dust whom England bore, shaped, made aware,
Gave, once, her flowers to love, her ways to roam,
A body of England's, breathing English air,
Washed by the rivers, blest by the suns of home.
And think, this heart, all evil shed away,
A pulse in the eternal mind, no less
Gives somewhere back the thoughts by England given;
Her sights and sounds; dreams happy as her day;
And laughter, learnt of friends; and gentleness,
In hearts at peace, under an English heaven.
For those you know in the US, then replace England for America.
I share with you a video of - The Last Post.
I will add a second link specifically directed to our American heroes.

Due to my unusual heritage I had two grandfathers who died in the second world war: one in the British Army and the other in the German Tank Division. My wife is Argentinian and was also hit by the loses in the Falkland (Malvinas) war. It is true when they say that there are no winners in a war, only those left behind. I would like to include all the fallen in the wars.
