Ok, that sounds fair...

I agree with the breaching tool part. If these devices were to be made, they probably won't behave like in the movies when two blades cross. The blades would simply pass each other. Duels (with blocks/parries) wouldn't be possible because of this, the only way would be dodging.

Edit: Didn't think about looking when this thread was last active, sorry for necro.

I've been reading this post today, and one of the most mentioned aspects is the lack of control of the blade in relation to the power output. The original idea, where there is an endcap on both ends of the blade, renders the weapon useless as both a breaching tool and as a blade. With the metallic spine, you'd have nothing more than a laser attached parallel to a club. As a counterpoint, you can control both the length and cutting power of the blade itself with an electromagnetic containment field. Since the field is synthetically generated, it can be created in such a way as to create a scything field in front of the blade, and also contain the induced plasma that is the blade. I've got schematics for the initial design around here somewhere. If I can find them, I'll post them.

Light has been stored for a minute. This means we can now turn on and off a light saber! The magnetic field would have to have a fusion generator inside to produce the electromagnetic field just like in the sun(a magnetic stir rod would have to stir the fusion solution while it works just like in the sun).

Cold fusion has been proven to work. If possible is a device such as the one I described something anyone would like to experiment with? That is once fusion tech is released..

or just make a plasma torch like theyve already made... ha
Perhaps a magnetic field attached to it will produce a light saber type device.
