Another brilliant argument against the viability of free-market, liberal economies.

That article highlights a problem that affects everyone... directly it affects the people writing the papers, but indirectly it affects everyone else. Newspapers, internet blogs etc love to cite research papers to prove their ridiculous headlines.. the media twists things anyway, but if the science on which they are based is flawed or poor in the first place then you end up with thousands of people believing that 'science' is telling them something it isn't.
It won't let me have a blank signature ...

Walking, stumbling on these shadowfeet
Part of the seduction of most religions is the idea that if you just say the right things and believe really hard, your salvation will be at hand.
With Jediism. No one is coming to save you. You have to get off your ass and do it yourself - Me

And people wonder why I go through the trouble of getting hold of full copies of studies rather than rely on second hand, poorly written press releases or journals.

You should try to go to conferences. Sometimes I swear a majority of the people there are actors (people who get paid to pretend they work in/with the industry).

Wouldn't surprise me one bit - if you want to meet the actual scientists, go to the town where the conference takes place. But rather than looking for them in the conference center, look for them in the local spa, zoo, micro-brewery etc.
Do not look for happiness outside yourself. The awakened seek happiness inside.
