Analytical Idealism

There seems to have been a slight changing in the tides of philosophy in the last 5 years or so. The hard problem of consciousness remains unfathomable to materialists and a growing number of philosophers, physicists and neuroscientists have begun to re-examine a number of alternatives to materialism. The likes of Phillip Goff have revitalised panpsychism (sorry - couldn't resist the pun!), Douglas Hoffman has refined his Conscious Realism and attempted to make it mathematically rigorous, and Bernardo Kastrup has led a renaissance in Bertrand Russell 's Analytic Philosophy in the form of what he calls Analytic Idealism. Ironically, Russell was highly critical of Idealism - but both his Analytic Philosophy and Philosophy of Mathematics seem to provide a solid basis for Kastrup's central thesis. Is Russell again condemned to prove the exact opposite of what he believed? (see Godel )?

Hi Gist - to answer your question - this thread was intended to merely be a share of the observation made in the OP. Then, an invitation for people to familiarise themselves with the ideas, via the videos.

In particular, I figured the Shermer video was a way for us all to witness the discussion by proxy, between two people familiar with the relevant material.

However, I’ve long viewed Shermer as a less sophisticated sceptic of ‘alternative’ paradigms, than you! If you have the time to investigate these updates to old ideas, seeing how you ‘kick the tyres’ on them, would be valuable.

Note to self: has highlighted the need for some work to be done regarding Schopenhauer's concept of 'will' as fundamental, in relation to the nature of The Force, let alone the coincidence (or appropriation) of this idea in George Lucas' invention of The Whills in his concept of The Force.
