Ivan Pavlov was created by

Ivan Pavlov was a Russian physiologist whose research on the physiology of digestion led to the development of the first experimental model of learning, Classical Conditioning. Most of his research was gathered studying salivating dogs.

What would he think about us and our cell phones today?

WOW! I'm a little surprised about the 0 response. I think it obviouse how our cells phones strongly condition our response in almost any situation we are in to the point of addictive behavior.

Maybe it's just me that feels the knee jerk grabbing of the cell when it rings is it controling me rather me it?

lol, I missed this Rickie...

But, I WAS thinking this very thing a short while ago...

I was across the shop, and the phone started ringing, and I automatically stopped what I was doing and headed toward it, thinking I should hurry or they will hang up...

Then I realized it was probably a salesman, and without running, I wouldnt make it in time, lol...

And, as it was probably a salemans, and he isnt worth my RUNNING......

++++++++++++++++++++++
While I am always on my phone, I do it consciously...

When I am busy, my phone ringing is a distraction, I am not dependent upon it, although I do choose it often for 'time killing', lol...

When I worked at Walgreen's, I was helping a customer...

The photo manager told me I had a call one day, and I said, I was busy...

He said, "Its the store manager", with a hint of 'you better take this'...

I said, "my job is to take care of customers, not talk on the phone, if you tell the manager I am helping someone, anbd will come find her as soon as I am done, I am sure she will be fine with it"

She was, and actually commended me on it...;)

One of the things that I feel offends is you are talking to someone and they have to answere their cell to tell the caller they will call them back.

OR this one: They put you on hold to take another call like the are soooo much more important thsn you.

A cell phone rang once in church, the priest looked up in the direction of the ring and said, "It better be god."

Ring the bell and people respond automatically. I just wonder if people know they are being conditioned and controlled.

Who is really in charge here?

The minute we give into impulse, it is the "ego", I would argue...

By distracting us, and not allowing us to pay attention to the moment, thinking there is something more important then NOW...

Ego wrote: Surely, whoever is on the phone is more important than what I am doing right now, regardless of what it is, so I will focus on the possibilities, instead of the realities..;)

We read/hear about this all the time, stay in the now. Focus is about staying in the now by avoiding distractions. Life is happening now. What you do now sets the stage for the future. Kinda like being on the internet at work.

Classic conditioning. :)

Surely, whoever is on the phone is more important than what I am doing right now, regardless of what it is,

IMHO Must not be engaged in anything worthwhile to think that

so I will focus on the possibilities, instead of the realities

Really nothing wrong with that but do you stay in a holding pattern waiting for the phone (opportunity) to ring/knock?

Yes and no.....

Its why I "disappear" sometimes, my physical world has more "in my face" demands, and sometimes i half write a post, only tonleave it for 3-4 hours, then forget my point...

I talk to very few using G+, and sometimes, in the middle of having a conversation, I must go...

Surely, whoever is on the phone is more important than what I am doing right now, regardless of what it is,

if you notice, I was quoting my ego, which thinks anything that supports itself is important....

Phone ringing = someone needs me (to answer)....

Better see who it is...

.....

so I will focus on the possibilities, instead of the realities

[/quote]

Nope, just showing me ego's thinking...;)

I love when people groan, as they answer the phone, like its an inconvenience, but they must...

The only must I've found is, "if we are born, we must die"...

Everything else is choice....

Choose wisely... :P
