That's super cool. And it looks like it's all going to be publicly available for free. Way to go Vatican.

Yes thank you! I hope they do this more often. Knowledge should always be shared not... archived, under lock n guard. My own opinion.

About the books and vatican.. what if it willl take a bit longer than expected? Guessing that there were originally 80,000 - 82,000 documents.. :P Could it take a few decades longer?

,,The Vatican is also still seeking funds to digitise the remaining 76,000 manuscripts, which it estimates will take more than 15 years, over €50m, and the efforts of more than 150 specialised experts.''

The first stage of the project will cover some 3,000 handwritten documents over the next four years.

Eventually, the library says it hopes to make available online all its 82,000 manuscripts.

Well I guess it's worth the wait for some of those documents :)

Given how many works they have locked away, from books, to works of art, I am sure there will be a lot that will not be digitized.

So with anything, selective distribution of knowledge is the problem.

Not unlike at one time, unless you knew latin, you couldnt read a bible at all.

That is true... the number of works to be digitised are probably only a small percentage of what they have... but some is better than nothing, at least to begin with.
