ive always liked music that "makes me want to kick holes in the ceiling"

as ive gotten older my taste has become more discriminating, sort of lol, but even when i listen to classical music it has to have some gonads, like ride of the valkries or marche slave

music has always helped me to cope with difficult emotions
cool thread

Metal has always been good to me. As a teenager, my dad threatened me with, "if we feel like you're slipping away from God, you're not going to be listening to anymore of this loud rock music"

I started out listening to hard rock bands like Disturbed, Godsmack (and because they are Wiccans, it began an 11-year journey for me to discover whether Christianity was really right for me), System of a Down; later I got into Linkin Park, and occasionally I'd listen to legends of thrash metal Metallica (but at the time, I really only listened a few of their songs off of the black album). My parents continually hounded me about my music choices so I switched over a Christian nu-metal band called Disciple (they've since gone down the path of profoundly mediocre rock).

Now that I've escaped my parents paranoia (somewhat), I listen to a wide variety of metal including epic, symphonic, thrash, melodic, speed, hair (sometimes), black, doom, and more. I've always suspected that my music is what was keeping me from losing internal cohesion. I was in a really bad place in my teens and I think if my parents had taken away my music I probably would have gone to a much worse place. *shudders*

I agree music is immensely powerful! On my way to and from work, I listen to jazz almost always. Sets me at peace. When I need to get PUMPED, I listen to metal of some sort (depends on my particular mood as to what subgenre it'll be).

Music is easily the surest connection to the divine, imho.

I have playlists for almost every occasion. Monday, weekends, when I'm sad, when I'm angry (you wouldn't like me when I'm angry), and pretty much every thing else. Music is immensely powerful in affecting my mood.
