Project Jedi was created by
Hi all!

I am Connor Lidell, as I'm sure many people here know me. I am an Apprentice here at TOTJO, but I also train at other sites. One such place is at the Institute for Jedi Realist Studies. As part of their training program, Adepts are required to complete a Major Project. I began mine last summer with ProjectJediBlog.org. Some may remember it. Well, I have gathered all the research to actually "write" the book. And, I'm doing that this summer.

I am looking for a couple of people to help me finish out the project, here are some details and how I could use help:
Project Jedi:
An Overview of the Jedi Realist Path.
By: Connor Lidell
Foreword by: Charles McBride.

The table of contents is:
Foreword
Introduction
PART ONE: Ignorance; yet Knowledge.
Chapter 1: What does it take? (overview of what Jedi Realism is, who can be one, how much work is it, what KIND of work is it?)
Chapter 2: Where's my lightsaber? (overview of what Jedi Realism is NOT, includes misconceptions and examples of Bad Jedi work.)
Chapter 3: Mind. (Specifics on what Jedi need to "know". Covers the Codes, the basic websites and their requirements, and the history of the Online Community)
Chapter 4: Body. (Specifics on what Jedi need to "do". Martial Arts? Working out? Can somebody in a wheelchair be a Jedi? These types of questions will be answered.)
Chapter 5: Spirit. (Specifics on Meditation techniques, what is this "Force"?, How should Jedi approach Spiritual stuff.)
PART TWO: Death; yet the Force.
Chapter 6: Youngling. (A step-by-step Guide to going from merely a Person to being a Jedi. Steps include: motivation, website overviews, offline chapters, and a beginner's course in Connor's Trinity Course (which is the basics of the Jedi taught through Mind, Body, and Spirit)).
Chapter 7: Padawan. (A guide to finding a Master and what one should learn in this phase. Do Jedi need "masters"? What if I can't find one, can I still become a Knight?)
Chapter 8: Knighthood and beyond. (A meaningful look at what Knighthood symbolizes. Uses Jungian archetypes, Campbell's work, and Star Wars to show how a person goes from the proverbial Youngling to a Knight. It also covers the ideology of what makes a Master and where I see the Jedi going in the future.)

----

SO, this is where I need help:
1. I need three people to read an advanced copy and "proofread". Looking not for content (which will be reviewed by the IJRS Faculty) but for grammatical and spelling errors. It's about a 200 page book, I'll wager, but with a LOT of space. I'd leave about 2-3 weeks to read it.
2. I need anybody who wants to to provide me with a bunch of "misconceptions" they know of in the Jedi path. (i.e. We are trying to make Lightsabers is an obvious one).
3. I need help accumulating HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS. Meaning, I need to know how we began, what happened in 2001, what happened in 2005-2010, and where we'll go from here. I'm gonna talk to Opie about this. But, if anybody has those history documents lying around, that would be really helpful. :D
4. And, finally, I need information on how to make the book publicly available (through Creative Commons or something...) as a document, BUT keeping my copyright separate from Lucas' and Lucasfilm LTD as well as now Disney. I know that I could just pass it around as a PDF, but I'd like to see if there's another way to not have it be SO low profile.

Thanks for any help!

Are you going to mention Jediism at all?

Yes! Absolutely. In the "Mind" chapter, when I go over the history, I plan to have sections about the supposed Three Divisions theory of online Jedi (The Jedi Realist path, The Jediist path, and the Jedi Pragmatist path). And, in the Jediist section, I'll have information about the religion.

I welcome a "guest lecture" in the book as well, if anybody is interested in putting their own writing into it as it pertains to the religion. Though, I'm competent enough having trained in it for two years to give some insight.

Well I've been getting a lot of experience doing interviews with the media on what Jediism 'is' so I put myself at your service should you ask it! :)

You have fair use rights for research/education. regarding copyright, it only relates to documents you copy, if you copy something like the Jedi code, it falls under fair use. If you include a copy of the script for the trilogy, you're infringing copyright. Stuff like "star wars" and "jedi knight" are trademarked but only for certain prodducts/services. Overall, if you do not charge, you won't be in trouble for distributing a book that has "Jedi" in the title. Just put a trademark notice to lucasfilm somewhere just in case.

Regarding the copyright license, unless you are yourself a licensee (for example if lucasfilm gave you a license to include movie scripts) you can publish under any license. Regarding CC licenses, they have quite a few, some of them with attribution, others without. there's also commercial exploitation, share-alike, right to modify, etcc You have to see for yourself what you want.

Can somebody in a wheelchair be a Jedi? Some time back I was in an informal group discussing possible standards for Jedi. This was the exact question I asked and the answers of more than a few convinced me to drop out of the discussion.
