So I have a ton of different hats I wear but I have been thinking about this for awhile.
I actually do calligraphy and illumination in the SCA and do scrolls for people from time to time. I was wondering if anyone has ever illuminated the Code or anything?
I'm tempted to give it a go just to see how it would look. Granted it would be a jump from Medieval Illumination/Calligraphy but then again in an old gothic style it might look really cool too.
Has anyone ever done or attempted this? Just Curious.
May the Force be with you, Always.

basically it means that a scroll or script of some kind is hand decorated. Many hours can go into an illuminated scroll.
Here is an example of one. Really anything goes and tons of Medieval and Renaissance scrolls are referenced and copied all the time.
I thought it would be cool to do one of the creed and the code to have for my office.

That one was not done by me but an example of what could be accomplished.
I have a few idea's brewing in my brain about this, and it is something I would like to try. I'm pouring through the Book of Kells right now for some more ideas....

Any result looking like that sample would be beautiful. Damn near majestic.

Yeah, that part gets sticky.....for instance that one is a Baronial/Duke Scroll and looks like vellum (rawhide calf or lamb skin), so its probably also period pigments, real 24k gold foil and such being used so by the time you get done with materials you are already looking at couple hundred dollars. Not to mention time, usually 24-48 hours or even longer go into a scroll like that because each color has to be done in many layers. So something like that could end up costing a grand or two. That's why us silly scribes usually just donate them, more for the enjoyment than for the $.
I'll play around with some idea's and post them. Just thought it would be fun to do for my office, I wasn't thinking of getting quite that elaborate. Once class is done for the semester I will have a little more time.
maybe something more like this.
