You know this means that SW VII VIII & IX will have very deep vocal soundtracks, vocals by Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, & a group number by One Direction. Raven Symoné will have a special cameo. And, of course, people will be looking for a hidden phallic symbol in the shapes of a skyline or cloud formation.

Argos wrote: As absolutely horrified I was when I found out that Disney bought the franchise and planned on making 5 new movies, and that they were going to completely throw out all canon on what follows the original trilogy

"Hey Boba Fett, you're such an awesome Mandalorian"

*George Lucas enters*

"Nope now he is the son of a bounty hunter so I can have a mysterious bounty hunter in the prequels and also put Boba into the film. Regardless of whether it actually makes the story any better."

There is only one source of canon. That is the films. Everything else is up to what other people decide to say but it has no bearing on the universe itself whatsoever. Things people consider as fact in that universe can and will change as and when the makers of the film decide to change them.

Interesting how one's own speculation can drag one down.. Why don't we just wait and see? They didn't buy Star Wars to ruin it but to make money of it and they sure know how that works (maintaining quality, that is).
And besides - can anyone see how there can be any more damage done than through the prequels already? I believe it can only get better. :)

Better to leave questions unanswered than answers unquestioned

I dunno if there's room for optimism. After all, Disney has its own way of "doing things." I don't know if they can keep faithful to an idea that wasn't written by them. Even if Kathleen Kennedy is at the helm behind-the-scenes, J.J. Abrams' success with Star Trek comes from rebooting with an ALTERNATE timeline. Consider all that together, and it gets a little frightening.

Hmm I'm a little reluctant to be optimistic. The prequels kind of flopped for me with all the cutesy characterizations and then an Emo main character where I was expecting some really good development. The dialogue kind of fell for me too, we went from "I love you" "I know" to "Sand is gritty but you're soft," (paraphrasing :P ). But I do know that Disney does get a lot right. So I'll keep an eye out.

It will definitively be another challenge for the fans. Like with the prequels, many fans will be angered of any sudden turns, because it's "taking away their Star Wars". Even more so with an alternative timeline.

The worst thing Disney could do is trying to please the fans. As with every movie franchise or music band, when they try to do this, the quality of the outcome goes down the drain.

Looking at the stories of the current Clone Wars series, I fear that it I will have to stick to upcoming EU novels for high-qualitiy Star Wars stories in the future.
