Ok. So I'm currently having a war with my co worker Idris.

Here's the situation:

Sonic is a hedgehog
Tails is a flying fox

So, what the heck is Knuckles? Well...we wikipedia'd the answer to find that Knuckles is an Echidna. But riddle me this one batman...

Look at what Knuckles looks like..then look up Echidna. The two don't add up. So i'm saying that Knuckles the Echidna is just another word for Knuckles the *explicitive* Hedgehog!

However...Idiris maintains that Knuckles is an Echidna which is not a hedgehog....

Please set this disput straight. Thank you!

well after looking it up. they are of same family but different species so i would say they are right and that knuckles is a echidna just as sonic is a hedgehog

I think this comes down to a classification debate. If, on a biological level, they're different.. then they have a different scientific name.. and thus a different classification and a different animal. Some whales look like dolphins, but are not.

Just because something seems the same, does not mean it is.

So what you're saying is that Echidna is just another HEDGEHOG.

Or...we offer this solution. HedgeHog + Echidna = PORCUPINES?

uh NO.

Echidna lay eggs. Hedgehogs don't.

Echidnas are not closely related to hedgehogs! It's kinda like saying that a platypus is the same as a duck or an otter. They look similar, but echidnas are monotremes (so they lay eggs, like ren said) and hedgehogs are eutherians. I personally don't think that Sonic looks like a hedgehog so the fact that Knuckles doesn't look like echidna is not changing much :D.

And porcupines are closer to hedgehogs than to echidnas.

Isn't the easiest way to settle this argument to edit the wikipedia page?

That way when you say "Check wikipedia!" and it says he's a hedgehog.... (we won't tell your co-worker about what you did, promise!)
