I get that last one entirely too often!!
In my field, there are people who think that its cool to go around asking "So, what makes your heart sing?!" or "What do you think your divine purpose is?" (yeah, im serious. I couldn't make this stuff up)
Apparently, getting all deep and meaningful on a "spiritual" level on your first meeting is how the cool cats do small talk these days.

Me, too. I usually tip-toe quietly around the egg shells if I feel it necessary to ask an obviously awkward question, but only after I realize the error of my inquiry. And, only if they forgo my reassurance that I asked that awkward question out of sheer boredom and that they don't have to answer if they don't want.

Honestly, so do I. I always feel like I'm being set up for a cruel joke they might be hiding up their sleeve. Then again, I read too much into things, sometimes.

Wow... that is a rather awkward situation to step into.

Pretty cool, I think. My wife and I were awkward with each other at first, too. I think we were studying each other while talking about meaningless topics. Still married 11 years and counting (12 next month).

I usually greet with a smile and a "Hello" or "Hi. How are you?" Then I talk about the first thing they mention so as to break the tension. There are times that I blurt out how I read the situation, like, "So, how are you liking this awkward conversation, so far?" Then again, I'm a strange person to begin with, so... :side:
