I feel like people complain about every character in Episode 1 who isn't Mace Windu, Qui-Gon Jinn, or Darth Maul because the rest of those characters don't comply with the dark and sad feel the original trilogy had. Related, there's a documentary called, "The People vs. George Lucas" which covers quite a few different issues (primarily centered around why making several "special editions" is horrible) and it talks about why people hate Jar Jar Binks so much. Also, in the television series The Clone Wars, I'm pretty sure they purposefully played off of how annoyed people were with Binks by making characters like Mace Windu go on an adventure with him and find him horribly annoying.

Oh yeah, this is the humor section... Haha, good one. :silly:

I found binks to be hilarious, in an annoyingly funny way....but I saw his purpose....lucas liked putting whimsical little nuggets in the background of many of his movies...binks was simply obnoxious enough to move to the foreground....

Just don't tell akkarin, he still denies the existence of the prequels :woohoo:

No love for Jar Jar here. He's the equivalent of every single teddy bear of episode 6 multiplied by ten minus any kind of common sense, all in one character. The characters of episode 4 and 5 seem a lot more "real". In comparison the teddy bears seem unlikely, jar jar is just a child-friendly cheap comedy trick, mace windu is there to be the badass dude, qigon is the super-wise guy, padme is shown as completely flawles... etc. overall kenobi , palpatine and skywalker are the best characters in the prequels, except episode 3 just completely ruins the storyline due to it making no sense whatsoever. In comparison, episode 4 and 5's characters were very well built and suffered from flaws you would expect them to have. The princess is a bit of a princess. old ben is a bit of an old man, luke is a bit of a farmboy who thinks he can't do what he can and can do what he can't, Han thinks he's more of a bad boy than he actually is, etc... As Lucas' neck grew, his movies lost substance in exchange for glitter.

Convictions are more dangerous foes of truth than lies.

I almost feel like I should start a Jar Jar Binks fan club just to combat all the hate.

Every group should have a Jar Jar Binks... In fact a lot of people here seem to have similarities to him, especially the ones that seem to dislike him..
