I agree with you, making your own system is probably just as safe and effective as 99.9% of all systems on the market.

That doesn't mean however I think 99.9% of the market are safe and/or are effective.

I think if you are in touch with your body and can direct awareness around around your body you can follow your intuition BUT take your time. These seem like simple and mild movements but they have a very powerfull affect on your body. Keep your movement small, close to the body and mostly upper body at first. Make broader and more sweeping movements very graduly. Slowly move into lower body and full body movements. I try to think of this as a gently daily walk.

Of course you young strong folks can handle much more physical stress than an old man like me but be carefull it is surprisingly powerfull stuff. Very good stuff but powerful. Have fun with it.

If you look in the library you will see Iron Shirt Chi-gong by Mantak Chia. It's here but I wouldn't begin with that. It's pretty hardcore stuff.

I saw that but I'm focusing onthe health/healing and spiritual aspects of energy work. I have a few decades of: poor posture, from being a desk jockie, to repair, balance and restore first.

This PDF Google it

"Chinese Fragrant Qigong-Qigong Association of America"

Covers the basics well for the stage I'm in. Take the introduction and stories with a grain of salt but the beginning level illustrations pgs 6-11 can get one started.

If you want to be a bit more dynamic then exaggerate the movements and do less repetitions. Be carefull and gradual. So days my movements are large and open and include some lower body and some days my movements are close to my body. I go by feel. The important thing is to do this daily and be mindfull of what I'm trying to achieve throughout the day after I'm done, which is posture, energy and health.

As I get older Iron Shirt may not be as important as Iron Depends.

The questions and answer section has quite a few learning points. I've read this several times now and will be looking for infor on more styles as time goes on.

If anyone tries this stuff I'd love for you to post you thoughts and experiences here.

The way I understand it, it's not merely about maybe the torso hard but about strengthening the organs against disease. I enjoy mantaks books though.

Countless different Qigong and meditation exercises exist. All teach the basic idea of using consciousness to go into the emptiness where thoughts ultimately cease or greatly diminish and sensory connections to our bodies fade.

We and everything in our world are all from the emptiness and will go back to the emptiness. It is a state of pure energy where we are one with the universe.

Our bodies naturally direct us to the emptiness. When we get sick, for example, the first place we go is not to the hospital, but to bed. When we sleep, we feel relaxed and peaceful. We bring our mind and body into the emptiness. Everybody does this automatic meditation without noticing it during sleep and periods of deep relaxation. Most of our daily energy blockages are opened and resolved in this way The deeper you go into the emptiness, the faster your body will heal.

By practicing Qigong we go into the emptiness where we effortlessly balance the Yin and Yang, the female and male energy. As the balance of energy comes back, the body heals.

“You know how in meditation we slow down our breathing and our pulse? It’s because we move more and more into our yin consciousness.”

-Neigong master John Chang (quoted from the book "The Magus Of Java")

“What is actual meditation like?” I asked.

“There are no thoughts and there is no sense of time. If you are thinking, you are not in meditation. If you are aware of yourself, you are also not in meditation. You must become like a baby in the womb, there and yet not there. Meditation is like the borderline between sleep and waking, between consciousness and unconsciousness.”

“Very difficult.”

“Not so difficult, Kosta. You stayed in meditation for long periods when you were an embryo and a baby, and you pass through it now each time you drift off to sleep. You just have to
remember how.”

-Neigong master John Chang (quoted from the book "The Magus Of Java")

I've printed and read about an inch of internet articles on Qigong and finaly decided to buy a book. Which one? Google that and try to sort that stuff out. really.

I was buying a CD for one of my wife's Christmass gifts and wandered over to the book section in Barns & Noble and couldn't find anything in the sports/martial arts section on Qigong. I was walking away empty handed, stopped myself, turned around, looked at the bottom shelf, bent over, moved to large books apart and it found me. The only copy. I love it when books find me like this.

"Qigong for Health and Martial Arts" by Dr Yang, Jwing-ming

Just what I need. Book report will someday be in my journal. Meanwhile I'll be reading and digesting this book slowly.

I've been practising mostly daily for a month or so now and feel very good about Qigong. Still taking it slowly. My hands and arms got very warm to day. I don't want an energy overload. Some of the things I've been doing instinctively are confirmed in the book. That makes me feel I'm following the right path.

Who here practices some form of Qigong that can share their thoughts and experiences?

Thank you very much. :)

funny how the force guides us, even when we don't notice...

it not only guided you towards the answer you sought in the bookstore, but it began guiding you long before...

likewise during my studies of energy work, i found confirmation that most of what i had been doing instinctively was correct...it makes me think we all have that innate knowledge and those of us that open up to it find it...

i don't practice qigong or reiki, i practice a little nei chung (neigong)and the rest....well i have no name to give it since it came instinctually...
