MAE Jedi, I wanted to talk to you right quick about Seasonal Affective Disorder.

♫It’s beginning to look a lot like Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)♫

It’s that time of year when the days start to get quite a bit shorter for us in the Northern Hemisphere. With the changing of the seasons, come the chance of being affected by seasonal affective disorder. SAD is type of depression where the onset is characterized by the changing of the seasons.

A common misconception is that SAD only exists in the winter; but SAD can also affect people in the spring/summer months as well. SAD is more common in the winter because of the decrease in the amount of sunlight which affects our health.

As Jedi, we can use our mindfulness and self-awareness to identify abnormal changes in our moods, thoughts, and even actions. We know ourselves best. Let’s continue to put those skills to good use.
