What does Healthy feel like?

So I've been overweight for as long as I remember. I was a chubby child, and though never lazy or inactive, I developed bad eating habits early on which I continue to struggle with to this day.

Right now I weigh 193lb (started at 210) , with a goal weight of somewhere between 130-140lb. Things are going well so far, I'm steadily losing the weight, and feeling the benefits of increased energy and better moods, but I'm still curious about what to expect as I slim down. Has anyone out there managed to get down to a healthy size after only ever knowing the feeling of carrying the extra bulk? Is there much of a difference beyond appearances?

Though I'm loathe to admit it, I think that the greater part of my motivation to get healthy is pure vanity. I know that my body will benefit from losing the bulk, but I've never really known anything but chubby, so it's a hard thing to imagine what a healthy human being is SUPPOSED to feel like.

Having lived almost my entire life with chronic illness, I've always wondered this myself.

Cannot comment on the weight aspect of the question sorry, but generally in regards to health, how about three glasses; one with muddy water, one with clear water and the other with hot chocolate.... respectively being pain, neutral and pleasure perhaps? Clear water doesn't taste that great compared to the hot chocolate, but its amazing compared to the muddy water!!

I suppose that everyone has their own normal. I can't imagine not having a big stomach because I've always had one...

hmmm....well i was always underweight...until i joined the military...it didn't matter how much i ate and worked out i just couldn't gain weight i graduated high school weighing 135lbs....i was able to squat 600+, leg press 585, bench 225...being strong was the only way i could earn a starting position playing football....in bootcamp i gained 20 pounds...by the time i was discharged i was up to 180lbs....then the "mid-life creep" began....my weight climbed to 264lbs....i stayed at that weight for a few years...i didn't care, because i'm happy with me...my sister wanted to lose weight so i gave her advice (in the navy i was my departments fitness coordinator) neither she nor my brother in law would listen...using the argument "well if you really knew what you were talking about then why are you so big?"....so to prove my point i lost 64lbs in about a year...i did this without using any fancy diet...i still ate pizza, fried chicken, burgers, etc...i simply modified how i prepared the foods, and ate more often...and didn't change my level of activity (i wanted to prove my point about not having to diet or waste money on expensive workouts)...i've maintained what is considered a healthy weight range for my age/height...after having been heavier for a few years though and then dropping down i did notice that my balance had returned to it's mountain goat status, i was able to run without pain in my knees, my lower back had less pain....

you'll feel faster, stronger, and have less pain and less breathing issues....

I love ya man, but there ain't no way in hell you were squatting 600+ pounds weighing only 135. ;)

I wouldn't believe it if you weighed 225lbs and said you could squat 600lbs, haha. We would need sworn witness statements at least.

Maybe that was a mistype??

it was supposed to be 500+....

the olympic bar 45lbs
4x 45lbs plates on each side
1x35lbs plate on each side
1x25lbs plate on each side

total 525lbs...if my math is correct...which is questionable since i've gotten 2 different totals adding it up already...probably why i've failed college algebra 3 times.... and those were maxes....1 rep...

That's pretty damn strong, wow.

I mean, that's still drug-free, competition level strength at 500+ pounds for a 135lb high school kid.

I'm surprised your coaches didn't recognize that and start getting you some publicity.

Eta: Bryce Harper, a stud athlete for the Washington Nationals was just bragging in ESPN the Magazine about being able to do an unassisted, 400lb squat. And he's about 6'2" 200lb professional athlete! Your feat as a 135lb high school kid is getting into like the top percentile of male strength in the world!

we had several guys at my school doing more than that....we were a very small school...graduating class of 200, total enrollment of 600....small town...the type of town that closed down on friday nights, for high school football. our fullback at 14 years old was benching 315, his brother graduated with the school record of 475...plus this was like almost 25 years ago....

my combine results in highschool were really good, ran a 4.6 40, had a 38 inch vertical, could do 128 pushups in 2 mins....i was a mini-beast....in 2003 i tried out for the local arena league team (the last year they had open tryouts) i only had 2 weeks of training to prepare and still almost made the team...186 people trying out for 16 roster spots, 10 of those people had no college or pro experience (i was one of them) i was the only one of the ten to finish in the top half, ranked 86th...there were soooo many undrafted college players, and practice squad members...i was talking with one guy that was a defensive end for dallas the week before, and another that was a wide receiver for philadelphia....it was a really cool and fun experience even though i didn't make the team...i did end up in a ton of pictures that made it to their website....

You feel light regardless of your weight, energetic, calm mood and centered mind. Who knows though really, health is subjective and relative.
