Dreams and nightmares tend to relate to the feelings that your having.
Perhaps write down what you see and feel in the nightmare to discover what it might be. Are you running from the ghost? Does it overpower you? Does it make you jump?
I used to have nightmares as a teenager constantly (I know that nightmares are actually most common during teenage years) about an invisible man that was trying to get me. Now I can see that it was my fear that I was always running out of time because I was a rather lazy person at the time.

Depending on just how much of a burden it is, maybe there is a place to seek professional help, too. Not dream readers, of course, but psychiatrists, perhaps. Of course, if you genuinely believe in the paranormal and spirit-stuff, maybe you could try and use a dreamcatcher as well. Though it would be nothing more than a placebo, going to sleep with the feeling that there is something protecting you may help you rest better indeed.

create a "spirit bubble" around yourself before sleeping....visualize your own spiritual energy surrounding your body then expand it outward creating a protective barrier around your space. most spirits feed off our fears, which is just negative spiritual energy, by surrounding yourself with positive energy you create a protective barrier....study your fears, understand them, then take control of them turning a negative into a positive.....gaining strength from weakness...

Through peace and harmony my chains are broken

first I would ask if it is at all possible that the dream is NOT a spirit which exists and has identity outside of yourself?
in my experience the majority of "ghost" dreams are more to do with the ghosts of the psyche than anything else
for me to offer any kind of precise suggestions I would need more information, but whether it is a genuine spirit external to your own inner workings, or if it is a part of your own inner being which is expressing SOMETHING, the question to my mind is "what does it want?"
MOST LIKELY there is no "supernatural" entity involved here, but, considering for a moment that it is something paranormal, then id suggest that its not just random happenstance that such a thing is badgering you
I cant get very far into this line of thinking, so I will only say this; with the spiritual realm, there is always a reason for what is happening, there is always an obligation which has to be recognized, and there is always an opportunity for personal growth of some kind
putting aside the paranormal
I believe recurring and emotionally intense dreams to be important, and that the best way to regard them is as indicators of what is going on in our lives and in our intentions and desires and fears, indicators of things of which we ought to be aware.
sometimes dreams of ghosts and supernatural beings are not much more than our minds way of expressing a general anxiety about the unknown, the uncertainty of life itself, and in these cases something simple and symbolic MAY work to help relieve the anxiety, at least for a time (which might be all that you really need, often "time heals all wounds" has truth to it)
but sometimes these dreams hint at something pretty specific, which we need to address with specific behavior changes, or at the very least by being more conscious of some aspect of ourselves or our lives, and in these cases the adjustment is the only thing that will work, ultimately
so to repeat, imo the important question is not "is it a ghost?" but rather 'what does it want?"
it may only be your own mind wanting you to acknowledge or adjust something in yourself or to accept the responsibility of your life or something equally personal and "mundane"
more often that is the case
so in general I would say this;
first, that you will be ok; nothing is going to hurt you while you sleep
next, that a jedi can not ever be lazy - we have to be willing to make whatever sort of effort and do whatever kind of work the moment, any given moment, demands of us
so integrate that idea into your life at a conscious level if you haven't already
this one single acknowledgement brought me personally so much growth when I accepted it and it is mandatory and fundamental to the Path
it also helps alleviate a lot of anxiety, its a way of knowing that whatever happens we will face it responsibly, and that's all anyone can do
last, a jedi trusts in the force - now of course there is no guarantee that life will be easy, or that you will "get your way" in any particular thing or with any particular person, in fact there is a guarantee that life will very often NOT be this way, but even so, there is a reason for your existence; YOU HAVE A PURPOSE HERE, and ITS NOT even POSSIBLE for YOU to FAIL at it, so as long as you are willing to work
and so, IN GENERAL, it is OK to simply trust in your purpose, and trust the force, and to be content in that

I would suggest going to see a psychologist trained in Freudian psychoanalysis (or even Jungian analysis), as they are most concerned with dream interpretation and solving the complex issues which lead to and come from difficult dreams.
For a quick fix you could probably see a psychiatrist and get put on some pills, but I don't personally put much stock into that kind of thing; it deals only with the symptoms and not the underlying issue.
I don't mean to suggest that you're crazy, either! This is a perfectly reasonable thing to go see a good psychoanalyst about.

It could be a few different things. The two that come to mind are:
A spirit that feeds off of fear. What's a little different than the one I encountered was my dreams were always different. The only thing that was the same in all of them was that they were terrifying. I'm sure there are a few kinds of spirits that feed off of fear so my uninvited guest may not be the same as yours. But I saw Dark (I gave it a name to try and make it less scary) outside of my dreams, not in them. He did induce the nightmares though. He wasn't an...evil spirit. Just one who's diet consisted on an emotion I didn't like to feel. He still took a lot of effort to get rid of. Ultimately what did it resided with me. I had shielded and called in spirit help but that help would only take the edge off so my dreams were my own (although still not very restful). I was so tired of being tired I got mad and ended up telling Dark off. I think that was the big hit on him because my help was then able to act and remove Dark from the house. My help told me that he couldn't do anything against the creature until I had done what I did.
My other thought is that repetitive dreams or repetitive themes in dreams are of my own making. I have a few stories behind those too but ultimately it takes me at least three dreams to recognize a pattern (because I'm slow lol). Then the dreams tend to occupy my attention until I figure out what it is the spirits or I am trying to tell me. I had very vivid and repetitive dreams where I abandoned or was forced to abandon my infant daughter due to some major disaster (usually flooding). It took me a long time to realize that I was terrified of, not physically abandoning her (like the dreams) but emotionally or spiritually abandoning her. Like my mother did to me. Once I realized that, the dreams never returned. And I knew it was something I could work on if I needed to, and it wasn't something I needed to fear because I was now aware of it.
Without knowing anything more than what you've said, I can't really offer more than that. You said that it feeds off of your weakness. Perhaps really think about your weakness and why you are so worried about how it makes you vulnerable. Do some self-reflections, meditations, prayer, or whatever you normally do that falls in that kind of line. If it's something to do with yourself, this will help you find it. If it has to do with an outside entity, this gives you a solid ground to defend from. I would constantly reflect on my dreams like that through the day because it was something that was troubling me. I tend to figure it out in a kind of epiphany moment out of the blue.
While you're doing that self inspection, shielding wouldn't go amiss. Imagine a bubble around you. It can be whatever material, whatever color, whatever design your mind comes up with. I've heard everything from soap bubbles (or one big one), to shield walls, to colorful silly putty, to roses, to picket fences.

General nightmares can have several causes. Stress, nervousness, sadness and depression can cause you to have some nightmares. Not everything that is "Bad" in our eyes is actually bad for our life, this may be a warning of your own body or mind, saying that you are doing something wrong, like not taking care of the body or mind. Another simple explanation is: What did you eat before bed? Because depending on the food your body may have trouble digesting the hour which can make you have nightmares. Talking about the most spiritual part, view an energy circle around you before sleep (Someone said it above) may work, or maybe some bads cristias to absorb energy or even a dream catcher. My final advice is to relax and try to sleep soundly, probably the cause and stress. Even so stay tuned, dreams can provide important information about us or about the future, so stay alert

well the sensation of being held down could be sleep paralysis...or it could also be paranormal...i know paranormal investigators have to remain more open to the spirit world which leaves them vulnerable/susceptible to spiritual attachments...
sometimes those with latent psychic abilities experience paranormal activity that is actually caused by their own abilities and not a spirit....
i work at a veterans home, and since starting there in april i have witnessed a chalk board fly off the wall right in front of me, a can fly off a shelf in front of me, i've had my shirt pulled and when i turned to see who did it there was no one there and no way a person could get past me without being seen, i've seen several dish racks come flying off a shelf, and most recently i've seen a person in blue scrubs come towards me then disappeared like a mist...not to mention the numerous times i've heard someone speaking when nobody but me was present....a coworker has an evp app and picked up numerous recordings in the kitchen and library...
