This is a succinct explanation of why atheism is not really a faith (meaning religion) from Bill Maher. Ignore all the rude words--Bill is just doing his job at being a comedian. Sometimes, atheism and faith go hand in hand like in Buddhism, Scientology, Jainism, Confucianism, Taoism, Advaita Vedanta. These religions have no God in the Abrahamic sense. However, I see where you are coming from. The problem here is in what people define as faith. Some define it as religion, some as belief. If you go the belief way ad absurdum, well, then my knowledge that there is peanut butter in my fridge is a faith. I'm in another room and I can't know for sure--I am not observing it directly, what if someone has eaten it?
