place for the newcombers

I'm hoping that i post this in the right place.
Wondering if there was a place for the newcomers to discuss the studies and IP other than the introduce yourself or chat space.
I have started going through it, and think it would be much more enjoyable and comprehensive to have someone else to discuss the material with.
Any answers welcome.
