Online but not logged in

I have been finding recently (including today) that I will load the forum to see that apparently I am online, despite not actually being logged in. I'm pretty sure that's the cause of me thanking a post yesterday when I wasn't logged in (still not entirely sure how I managed it though!).

I have suspected for a while this may be something to do with viewing the site on different devices (phone vs tablet vs macbook) so I've been trying to make sure that I log out when I'm not actively using the site. This doesn't seem to be sorting it though.

It's not a problem that I appear to be online, it's just a bit strange and I wondered if anyone knew why it was happening?

I have been online before when I wasn't... I have no idea what causes it but it seems to happen from time to time.

I think we looked into it once, but I do not remember what we decided the issue was.

Even form one piece of equipment, like a computer, you can have multiple sessions of logged in activity....

That is due to the site itself not releasing you (logging you off)...

I log in form several computers, and my phone all the time...

This is why at the bottom it says "40 members, and 356 guests"...

yeah it says 5 guests and 22 members... :dry:

I find when I log in on phone is sometimes says I'm still logged in when I go on the computer later.
Doesn't seem to happen on computer just with phone.
And oh my just had a nightmare vision of 300 jestors lol :dry: :whistle:

totjo stores sessions for a relatively long time, just to avoid timeouts... Which is useful when people are posting.
Then there's multiple logins, and "remember me". Then there's the possibility of a corrupt session, which sometimes results in being logged-in, yet the yellow bar is nowhere to be found.


edit: For those who like to snoop around a bit, when looking at the cookies, the bit that starts with d376 contains an "=" character. What follows that is your session id.
