Self Healing through Self Discovery
Make some tea, coffee or any other calming drink of choice, pull up a chair and get comfortable. We are going to have a conversation that may get a little uncomfortable but sometimes in order to start the healing process we have to come face to face with what is hurting us. Will it be easy? No, nothing great is ever easy but Self Healing is one of the greatest things you can do for yourself.
There are some different terms for what we are going to discuss, the one I’m most familiar with is Shadow Work. It’s the process of delving deep into your old traumas and healing them. The first step is to identify what those traumas are and what really happened, not the stories we told ourselves and anyone else but exactly what happened. The next biggest and most difficult step is forgiving ourselves for it. Most cases it is was completely out of our hands and we aren’t to blame but part of the power we lose to these traumas is because we won’t forgive ourselves for that pain and enduring it for all this time.
This is a big and rather difficult thing to do and I recommend not doing it alone. There are many Pagan and Wiccan courses (initiations) that work with this: Darkmoon Mysteries, The Hallow Quest. These are two that I’ve personally done and grew myself because of them. So what does this have to do with self discovery or self healing, you ask? Everything. When we take time to discover who we are, how we feel, why we feel it and what we want out of life, we can start to find things to help heal the past pains and transgressions. Through my courses and workings I found that I had German ancestors that were Druids as well as Vikings. That discovery set me more firmly on the path of being a Norse Pagan Jedi. Even with that knowledge I still stumbled and failed because I hadn’t discovered who I AM.

Fast forward 10 years, I know who I am, where I’m going, what I want out of life and who I want in my life. Does that mean I’ve healed all my past issues? Lol no. Some wounds won’t ever truly heal. It’s like putting nails in a wood fence and then pulling them out. The wood will still be strong and do its job but the holes will remain. It’s the same with our hearts, our minds and our souls. There will be holes and gaps but the strength of it remains the same. I’m some cases the foundation is weak but that is where the Self Healing comes in. When we forgive ourselves and start that healing process that foundation gets stronger and stronger over time. I’ve known people, some of them being here at the Temple, that have gone through literal hell and came out looking like a champion. Why? Because they don’t let the holes break their foundation. They chose to let go of what was and forgive themselves and move on. Is it easy? Gods no. Is it simple? Yes and no. It’s simple to talk about it but not so simply done. Everyone is different, everyone has challenges, everyone is unique in who they are and what they want.
That’s the discovery side of it. It’s up to you to find yourself. I’ve had to adjust my thoughts and beliefs until it was just right for me. I’ve taken bits and pieces of everything I’ve learned to make me who I am and who I wanted to be. I still have a lot of work to do on myself, it’s a never ending process but when you take that first step and start discovering who you are, you will start piecing yourself together. If it feels right, not just okay, but deep down inside, with every fiber of your being, type of right, you’ve found the next piece. Start building your puzzle, start forgiving yourself and never give up. Your path may not be here at the Temple but we all have to start somewhere on the path.

The path is yours, but it’s not a path that has to be walked alone. Brightest blessings to you all and May the Force be with us all.
