-Change-

Recently, there have been a few conversations that I have been apart of, where some form of change is at the heart of the conversation....

It may be Senior Knight V-Tog's recent stepping down from Council, maybe all of the lost Halloween decorations at my job, or change in our life, with health, status, or procedures...


'Change is the only constant.'

'Dont like THIS, then wait a minute, it will change.'

'Everything changes.'


We all realize this... But, when we are feeling that the world is 'not being fair', we often whine, or complain... lol... Depending on which side of a complaint you are on, it could be either...;)

Quick changes are usually the ones we cry out against... Slow gradual change, that we see the outcome, usually isn't met with the same resistance...

In dealing with change, we have really three options, well, two, but I included a third, which is how I try to deal with change... lol...

First, of course, is to fight change... Kicking and screaming... Whining and complaining... Talking about how 'its not fair', or 'We have never done it like this before!'

You know the stuff that gets said...We all do.. For all of my seeking enlightenment, I still catch myself stuck, and questioning the 'change', whatever it is... lol...

And, change will still happen... It may not be the one you were rallying against, but, change will happen, nonetheless...

The second way to deal with it, is to just accept the change... Roll with the changes and adapt... We all do this when we implement the change, thinking a change in 'whatever', is for the best, yet others do not usually see this, lol...

The third way, is just live... There is only "NOW" and it is both eternal, and ever changing....

I just live... I have adventures to set out on, and sometimes they are similar to last time I set out on the mission, and sometimes some bonehead, er, I mean, someone has altered something and now procedures, once so familiar, are now new and different...

I question the change, and, if it makes sense to me, I roll with it... And, if it doesn't, I fight it....

That's it...

    My approach is much like yours my friend....knowledge and understanding goes miles in accepting/rejecting change

    To my memory I don't recall ever rejecting change, but I've always found it difficult none-the-less. It's one of the things that has always set off my anxiety issues. Learning to accept change more gracefully is something I've been striving for, for a long time now.

    I'd say it depends on the particular change which of the former two options is more appropriate as there are acceptable and unacceptable changes both quick and gradual.
    The third option is IMHO the most cowardly one can possibly choose in that it is not acting in favor neither in opposition to a change, and as if that weren't enough, it is also the position of not taking responsibility for whatever the outcome would be, as one 'just lived' through it and didn't technically go either way.
    Yea, I pretty much totally disagree with the message in this sermon, but thanks for its creation, as it moved yet another thought.

    thank you for this one. I would say story of my life but really its everyones life. I have learned to just be and not fight it because i know that it is the will of the force so it must happen. Thanks again and MTFBWY.

    I understand Gisteron...

    And you are entitled to your opinion of course...

    If you read between the lines, I say to do both... There are times of "attack", and their are times of "retreat"...

    But, you are a man of steadfast values, and a unwavering opinion... Seems to be the case, I may be wrong...:) So, you may not see it that way.... ;)

    Have you ever been at church and someone stood up after the sermon and basically rejected the message in front of the congregation? I've never seen it but I'd bet it has happened. Should it happen? Maybe that is part of what makes our Temple great is that we allow it to happen. Gisteron's comment, while it may be sound, just feels out of place. I would suggest contrary opinions to the sermon be talked about in a thread in the General Discussions or Jediism forum. Just my opinion...

    That's the thing though: In a real church there is no discussion or comment segment after a sermon. Heck, even if you personally go up to the pastor after the mass and disagree, he won't have you around for long.

    You see, most churches couldn't survive, if they allowed for freedom of speech and not only for freedom to agree.

    Fortunately TOTJO isn't like this just yet and we have the opportunity to examine ideas regardless of their authors and evaluate them on their own merits at the very same places where they were made public, be it even at the cost of appropriateness or indeed inoffensiveness.

    I'm certainly not disagreeing with the ability to speak out against a sermon. I encourage it if the circumstances or content matter warrant it. If it were me, though, I'd do it in the General Discussions or Jediism forum. Like I said, just my opinion though. (I came from a religion that taught "don't criticize your leaders, even if the critisism is true", so I certainly appreciate the ability to question anyone. That should/must never change.

    G, I believe LTK is advising starting a thread to address your issue with the sermon, rather than using this strange "forum" that is really just for comments to the author.
