******************************************** Humor of the Week ***************** Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world. Lily Tomlin

The trouble with being poor is that it takes up all of your time. Willem de Kooning (1904 - )

******************************************** Welcome by: Pastor Daniel ************************ Greetings my Beloved Sisters and Brothers, and welcome once again to the Church that is Within.

The topic of today's Sunday Service, #610, is "Being there … ******************************************* The Sermon *********** I had an interesting thought the other day… interesting to me anyway, perhaps it may be to you as well… so I thought I'd share it with you.

How much of my time do I actually spend "Being" me, compared to how much actual time I spend Acting like me? So… What is the difference, And… how do I Tell the difference? Well, I tell the difference by the way that I feel, by my comfort level, by the number of irritants that are affecting me.
It is Peaceful "Being" me… but Life feels like a struggle when I am trying to Act like me.
I never have to think about what I should or shouldn't say when I am Being me, so when I find myself in conversation paying more attention to my response than to what is being said by another, it is a pretty good indication to me that "I am trying to Act like me."
When I feel like I am being accused of something, it is more likely that I'm in my "Acting like me" phase… because when I am Being me, things that are false hold no power, and things that are truthful are worthy of note.
When I am "Acting like me" it is mostly about trying to be the way others think I should or ought to be… when I am Being me, I only have to be who I Am and have concern for who I am personally becoming.
When I am Being me, I never have to lie to myself. When I am "Acting like me" well… sometimes it is hard to tell whether I am lying to myself or not.
["Yeah… I Know!" Fascinating, huh? ]
So… I'll let today's Quotes "bring it home" from here…

******************************************** Quotes ******* (From: Elvis Presley (1935 - 1977) The image is one thing and the human being is another, it's very hard to live up to an image.

(From: Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001), "Last Chance to See") Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

(From: George Washington Carver (1864 - 1943) How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and the strong -- because someday you will have been all of these.

(From: George Harrison (1943 - 2001) It's being here now that's important. There's no past and there's no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever, is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can't relive it; and we can hope for the future, but we don't know if there is one.

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-10) …Jesus talked at great length, trying to show the twelve what they must be, not what they must do. They knew only a religion that imposed the doing of certain things as the means of attaining righteousness--salvation. But Jesus would reiterate, "In the kingdom you must be righteous in order to do the work."

(From: The Urantia Book - Paper-140 Section-10) But it was a difficult task to persuade these Galilean fishermen that, in the kingdom, being righteous, by faith, must precede doing righteousness in the daily life of the mortals of earth.

(From: The Book of Runes - #1 - THE SELF (Mannaz)) Being in the world but not of it, that is implicit here. And yet do not be closed, narrow, or judging, but remain receptive to impulses flowing from the Divine within and without. Strive to live the ordinary life in a non-ordinary way.

(From: The Tao Te Ching - #8) The supreme good is like water, which nourishes all things without trying to. It is content with the low places that people disdain. Thus it is like the Tao.

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don't try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.

When you are content to be simply yourself and don't compare or compete, everybody will respect you.

(From: Bob Dylan (1941 -) He not busy being born is busy dying.

(From: James Thurber (1894 - 1961) All human beings should try to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why.

(From: Peter Ustinov (1921 - 2004) The point of living and of being an optimist, is to be foolish enough to believe the best is yet to come.

(From: Sir Winston Churchill (1874 - 1965) For myself I am an optimist - it does not seem to be much use being anything else.

(From: William James (1842 - 1910) Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

(From: Peter Minard) Not merely an absence of noise, Real Silence begins when a reasonable being withdraws from the noise in order to find peace and order in his inner sanctuary.

(From: Patricia Sampson) Self-reliance is the only road to true freedom, and being one's own person is its ultimate reward.

(From: Barbra Streisand (1942 -) A human being is only interesting if he's in contact with himself. I learned you have to trust yourself, be what you are, and do what you ought to do the way you should do it. You have got to discover you, what you do, and trust it.

(From: Michele Shea) Creativity is...seeing something that doesn't exist already. You need to find out how you can bring it into being and that way be a playmate with God.

(From: Joseph Chilton Pearce) To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.

(From: William James (1842 - 1910) The art of being wise is the art of knowing what to overlook.

(From: Brenda Ueland) Listening is a magnetic and strange thing, a creative force. When we really listen to people there is an alternating current, and this recharges us so that we never get tired of each other. We are constantly being re-created.

(From: Whitney Young (1921 - 1971) The truth is that there is nothing noble in being superior to somebody else. The only real nobility is in being superior to your former self.

(From: Mary MacCracken) Level with your child by being honest. Nobody spots a phony quicker than a child.

(From: Theodore Roosevelt (1858 - 1919) Justice consists not in being neutral between right and wrong, but in finding out the right and upholding it, wherever found, against the wrong.

(From: e e cummings (1894 - 1962) To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best day and night to make you like everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight and never stop fighting.

(From: Harold Wilson (1916 - 1995) Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you're scared to death.

(From: Shakti Gawain) When I'm trusting and being myself... everything in my life reflects this by falling into place easily, often miraculously.

(From: Wilfred Peterson, This Week (Oct. 1, 1961) The art of being yourself at your best is the art of unfolding your personality into the person you want to be. . . . Be gentle with yourself, learn to love yourself, to forgive yourself, for only as we have the right attitude toward ourselves can we have the right attitude toward others.

(From: Anton Chekhov (1860 - 1904) Perhaps the feelings that we experience when we are in love represent a normal state. Being in love shows a person who he should be.
