Qui-Gon Jinn is where I tend to diverge from the fiction. He is too much of a basket case IMO, no offense. I think they use his character to muddy the waters and make more out of imbalance then need be for the storyline to make best sense. I''d prefer to see the Jedi as victims of circumstance in regards to their peripheral combative endeavors, and not function or design or misuse by the Republic or misleadership by Yoda et al... and the only exclusion to that being the Sith, which they are the only ones capable of confronting. So I feel like the writers tended to conflate those two things and made Qui-Gon Jinn the poor sod who couldn't reconcile the difference!
