Influential Fiction was created by Edan
We often share non fiction and spiritual writings with each other that influence us (and continue to), but there are some pretty influential fiction novels out there too.

There are so many I could name for me...

The Giver - Lois Lowry (from my childhood)
Nineteen Eighty Four - George Orwell
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - Philip K Dick
One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - Ken Kesey
Magnus - George Mackay Brown

(... the list is about ten times the length if I went on...)

What fiction literature really influenced you?

It won't let me have a blank signature ...

For reading... I was more non-fiction then fiction, but I spent most of my fiction reading these ones which I owned. There were some good library ones too but I don't remember them because they only got read once and returned;

Choose Your Own Adventure series titles;
. Space and Beyond, R. A. Montgomery
. The Third Planet from Altair, Edward Packard
. Deadwood City, Edward Packard
. Who Killed Harlow Thrombey, Edward Packard
. The Lost Jewels of Nabooti, R. A. Montgomery
. Mystery of the Maya, R. A. Montgomery
Sword of the Samurai , Jamie Thomson & Mark Smith
Neuromancer, William Gibson
Count Zero, William Gibson
Mona Lisa Overdrive, William Gibson
Burning Chrome, William Gibson

That was my main 'fiction' universe during my 6-26 years :lol:

Movies was Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Top Gun, Bladerunner, Matrix as highlites, in order of exposure for that same timeframe as above. I actually don't read fiction so much anymore, but when I do I reach for a sci-fi book. The last was probably some EU stuff just out of curiosity to see what others in the community are talking about.

I highly recommend the Dark Tower series by Steven King. They tell a great story and one can learn a lot of lessons from reading them. Besides philosophical books, fantasy books (such as the Dark Tower, The Stormlight Archive and the LOTR series) are my favorite books to read. It's interesting how fiction can teach us so much about the world we live in.

The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind is amazing. The first book, Wizard's First Rule, is chock full of wonderful life lessons and even contains some interesting psychological/metaphysical tidbits that have helped me with meditation, overcoming challenges in life, getting through tough times, and all sorts of things you really wouldn't expect from a fantasy book.

Side Note: The Legend of the Seeker, which is based on these books, is a HORRIBLE representation of the source material. If you've seen the show and hated it as much as I did (or even if you liked it), I would highly recommend reading at least Wizard's First Rule, as it is almost a completely different story when it comes down to it.

So many but if I could only recommend one, it'd be The Obsidian Trilogy by Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory. Coming of age, hero's journey and the way the Wild Mages view the world has really influenced my own philosophy. Or I think it's more accurate to say it gave my philosophy form?
