I've been re-watching a show I first found and enjoyed when I was really young: Kung Fu, starring David Carradine. It ran from 1972 to 1975, and (I believe) was shortly referenced in the end of Pulp Fiction by Jules Winnfield (a movie that I know some of you are familiar with). I'm not sure if many of you are familiar with it, but the basic plot is that a Shaolin monk named Kwai Chang Caine is on the run in Old West America, and travels from place to place spreading peace and helping people wherever he goes. I didn't learn so much from it when I was young, but now, watching it again, it's a show like no other; there is a lot of (mostly Buddhist) wisdom to be taken from it. I highly recommend the show.

Awesome series dude I remember watching reruns of it as a kid also and have been watching it through again lately.

It's even better now, I remember as a kid I would wait through the 40 odd minutes of philosophy for the 10 minutes of action. Now I'm watching the 40 odd minutes of philosophy and waiting for the action to end lol.

Alexandre's profile pic reminded me of it, and inspired me to pick it up again.

[I love that show!

Occasionally, I call people "grasshopper" im homage to it...

Usually, in refrence to the "grasshopper" needing patience....

Where did you find it? On reruns, or did you buy the series?

I use to watch it when I was young. Loved it and the music was just great !
I saw in a documentary about Bruce Lee (don't remember which one) wherein it is said that Bruce has been approached for the character of Caine but he was too ... chinese for the leading part. So, Carradine did the job.

His son, Brandon Lee, was actually on an episode once. Quite good. :)

Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story....

That was a biography of Bruce...

Touching on his life from China to college, then marriage, then teaching, then Kato in the Green Hornet, then a little touch on the Kung Fu series, then movies...

Great story...

upon logging in and seeing the title of this thread how could I not jump in :woohoo:

I watched this show religiously as a child and not for the action...I loved the philosophical aspect of the show...it was one of the influences that lead me to martial arts and zen...

Yes bruce lee was approached then deemed "too asian" for the part, he almost didn't get kato either till they mentioned he'd be in a mask most of the time...remember this was after wwii and america was still a bit sour on asians after pearl harbor...did you know that while playing kato he had to slow down because he was too fast for the cameras?

And it was kind of ironic that his son landed his first adult acting job on the same series the father was too asian for...

Excelent show. Always so soft spoken. It's a shame how the actor died. :(

Hm ok the story I remember hearing was that Bruce Lee actually proposed the idea of an Eastern/Western to WB about a year or so before it was made but they rejected it because no one was really watching Westerns anymore and sadly the too Chinese for the role.

Umm were you asking me Jestor? I found the first season at a movie place that was going out of business
but haven't found the other two seasons yet.

...Damn it going to go look up the Bruce Lee thing.
