What's the deal with the title of "Darth"?

I read somewhere in the Initiates Program(?) that putting titles in username wasn't allowed because some people had guinely earned titles like "Jedi" and "Darth"; but is there really such thing as this title in Jediism? And if so, how is it earned?

NO, we do not allow Darth, as it is a Sith term...

It stops Sith wannabes from at least using it...

Most legit Sith I have met dont use it, no offence... Not all of them, Im sure there are legit ones out there, and you counld be one, only few actually come by...

We are a Jedi site, not a Sith...

Jedi is a term for a TOTJO member...

No, we don't use the title Darth, but I guess the thinking is that visitors and new members wouldn't necessarily know that and might assume that Darth denoted a rank/title.

Whenever I see "darth", I think it's RPG. the Jedi in Star Wars would be believable in the real world, but the baddies? They're definitely from a movie.

"Darth Vader" is Dutch for "dark father". Don't know what kind of light that sheds on the topic, but I thought it was interesting :P

as was pointed out darth simply means dark ....in the movies only the sith took on darth (dark) as part of their name...it was not a rank but an identifier to distinguish themselves from the jedi..

Darth is often thought to be a combination of letters from the title Dark Lord of the Sith.

Although there's no concrete proof for this theory, there's no proof for any other theory. Lucas has never defined it's actual meaning or origin so ntill stated fully, it's something that's open to discussion and interpretation.

you say the only one who takes on "darth" is merely to distinguish himself from the jedis but most of the full on Sith's, like the sith lords have been mantions with the name "darth" there's Darth Sidious, Darth Plaqueis, Darth Maul, etc
