The nervous system is broken up into two major divisions: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. While both are complex systems, the peripheral nervous system has more major divisions than the central nervous system, which is broken up into the brain and the spinal cord. The following video covers the physiology of the peripheral nervous system, and the video afterwards considers the role of the peripheral nervous system in the case of trauma:

Overview of the Peripheral Nervous System:

Trauma and the Nervous System:

After watching both videos, consider an experience which you are comfortable sharing which seems in-line with the activation of the autonomic nervous system detailed in the videos. In your journal, relate that experience and note what activities in the peripheral nervous system were likely involved based on the information from the videos.
