One Month In!!

How is your New Years going?

Still on your diet? Still working out? Still off the cigarettes? Being more charitable? Being that overall, better you, you are hoping and looking for?

If so, congratulations! If not, don't give up!

Like we tell newer folks here at TOTJO, and tell each other constantly, take your time... It is not a race... It is good to set goals, just do not set unrealistic goals...

Yea, if you meet those goals quickly, won't you be happy!!

But will you make that goal?

Or, like so many, have you decided that since you won't hit your mark, then "just forget it!"

Take your time... Set small, realistic goals... One pound of weight lost each month... One lesson a week... One less cigarette a day... One less hot dog from the gas station (hint Jestor)... Maybe even one less profanity a day...

Remember, none if us are perfect... None of us are infallible... All you can do, is do your best...

This is not an excuse... Look in the mirror, be honest... Have you really gave it your best effort (one less hot dog Jestor)? Or have you justified it with, "well, it is just a hot dog..."

Constant vigilance, constant effort....

Just as getting "rusty" at a physical exercise from lack of practice, the same can be said for any endeavor...

Practice constantly, stay the course...

Good luck... And enjoy the journey...

It's not all rainbows and butterflies, but its not all razor blades and alcohol, either...

May the Force be with You....

;)

My exercise goals fell off already due to a painful hand injury, but I will try again tomorrow and see if I can make it work. <br /><br />One step at a time... :-)

Personally I no longer make new years resolutions. For years I decided that I would give up smoking on 1st January and rarely made it beyond a few days, a week at most. One day I simply decided the time was right and I've been a non smoker ever since. <br /><br />Any change in life style requires dedication and practice to get it right and I completely agree that it is best to take things slowly when the time and place is right for you.<br /><br />'It is better to take many small steps in the right direction than to make a great leap forward only to stumble backward.' - Chinese proverb

30 Days today, and still not 1 single cigarette. I totally agree with this sermon, and I also agree with Psyddhattha... The time must be right, and you must be willing to make a change. But when that change comes from within you, and you use the energy of the force around you at that time, there is little that you can not change. I think the lesson is that: if the desire is in you, don't look to what's around you to keep you going. As Yoda said: 'Do, or do not. There is no try.'

That's a great quote Psyddhattha! I'm stealing it for the daily gem, haha!

Reminds me of the Japanese expression "CHIRI MO TSUMOREBA YAMA TO NARU" (Piled up specks of dust become a mountain). It teaches the moral that little by little and bit by bit, one's persistant efforts will lead to acheivement of one's end goal.
