The differences of perspective, belief and choice...

I’ve heard many times since joining the temple the idea and concept of one persons way not always being the same as another persons, this is something we tend to forget sometimes, and misunderstand others, and after some of the discussions lately, I thought it might be a good idea to do my sermon on this...

The topic of discussion lately has been about death as a justice, personally I tend to see much justice in the same manner as revenge, not doing right by all parties or righting any wrongs, but by punishing the “wrongdoer” even in cases of victimless crimes. I do not see wrong in any one person’s belief, if it is you’re culture and countries belief that death is a worthy punishment, that is for you’re own morals and perspective to judge, And if you do not see it as the right course of action, that is fine too... the problem I see is that we all don’t recognize that each of us is free to view it how we feel fit, and we are going out of our way to change minds.

Personally, I see it this way, in war there is no innocent nation, and throughout history, probably every nation has had its atrocities... I won’t point out specifics as it doesn’t really matter these days, we were not there, and we ourselves did not commit these crimes, but our ancestors did and we have to live with the consequences of actions... this is the way of the force... a ripple that turns into a tsunami in a sense.

Now throughout history, when a tyrant topples, there is celebration (even when a misdirected manipulated man leaves his term), I don’t see this changing any time soon, nor is that for us to really judge... was it wrong for America to celebrate Hitler’s demise, or for Russian Jews to celebrate Stalin’s death? we are not those people so while it may be wrong for us with our morals, it does not make the people celebrating bad people, just people with different morals and situations. Each of us comes to the temple to better ourselves... It does not mean that we are better than others, just that we are different than them and I thought that it might need to be brought up.

Greetings Master Jasper

I like this post.it describes the mass of humanity rather well.As individuals we have an opinion which is fine.Going with the flow so to speak takes that individuality away.If you don't agree with something you should find the courage to say so.
One of the vows I took in my world of Budo is to show compassion. I have to say it is one of the hardest tasks I have ever undertaken.
In my humble opinion revenge just hurts the spirit. the sense of victory is short lived in my view.

No matter how small the stone. ripples will form in a still pond.

Thanks again for sharing Master Jasper :)

Yours in the spirit of Budo

Mike

I agree, we cannot blame those people during that period. Though I don't think it was morals rather than the situation that they were forced upon. We entered a war for retaliation that I know was wrong and many, many, many people were hurt and confused as to the main question... why? Why did they do this to us they wanted us to be in the fight. Many of congress and senators wanted us to join and to try and fight for the little man. After many years of fighting and bloodshed it was finally over. In the end I believe we celebrated the fact that the death in the war was ended and that maybe we could recover and move on with our lives put this behind us which I’m sure everyone wanted and those who wanted to mourn for their loved one's finally could, but those of us know that there is no death, there is the force and all of those who were lost will always guide us on our way. Thank you for your teachings and I apologize for the long history we already know.

Vito Gardella

Sorry, I have 24 pages of sermons to catch up being a newer member, but I have always loved the topic of 'should we be relative to culture or objective'? I think there are SOME universal truths that go across all cultures, but sometimes VERY...
