In defence of those I hold in high esteem

In the lady few days, I have defended the honour, as I see it, of two men I hold in high regard. One is a knight from here, a defended of the realm so to speak. The other a dark knight from FA.
When we bond with people who have been or are pivotal influences in the direction we desire to walk our path., we naturally jump to their defence. When my friends are insulted I'm like a pit bull, my teeth are firmly embedded until my point is made.

I don't seem to be able to hold back when people I care about need defending as well.

In the past I would snap back, bear grudges and the whole thing, and it would just end up making things a lot worse. As I know I have a tendency to blow up in conflict I'm trying to do more to kind of firm up the person themselves... supporting them, reassuring them, helping them step back from the conflict if at all possible.

I've also taken steps to contact people who my friends have come into conflict with to try and mediate a little bit, but that doesn't always go so well. It's much easier to mediate when you don't know either party, something I have to do at work quite a lot!

I don't think there's a problem defending people you care about, so long as your defence is proportionate and not just escalation.

Thanks for clarifying the topic.

As a general way, I don't do that any more because I wasted time and energy in doing so. The people I held/hold in self esteem didn't/don't need my defence. They stand on their own just fine. Also, those that i was speaking to wanted to rant . . .not understanding or a discussion.

Sticky subject I think. I was always the subject of tease and ridicule when I was younger. Those experiances go far to influence how I treat people today (in a positive way). But it also caused me to have a hair-trigger when it comes to protecting others. However, there were many instances I bulled into that didn't need my protection. I've had to learn along the way when someone does need my help, and when someone doesn't. And to what degree. It's not an easy task....I'm still learning :D I'm very familiure with the taste of my foot XD
